Watertown Football Team Hosting Golf Fundraiser

Charlie BreitroseThe Watertown Raiders football team will hold a golf fundraiser on Aug. 11. The Watertown High School Football boosters will hold a golf tournament to help support the program. Play a round of golf at Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024 beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are $175.00 per golfer, and include:

18-Hole round

2 Watertown Field Hockey Players Take Part in National Junior Championships, One Named to Junior Olympics Team

The following announcement came from USA Field Hockey:

Following evaluation at the 2024 Junior Nexus Championship, presented by Osaka Hockey, USA Field Hockey is pleased to announce the athletes who have been selected to play in the 2024 Girls AAU Junior Olympic Games, including Reagan Driscoll of Watertown. This year’s event will take place at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina, from July 29 to August 1. These selected athletes will have the opportunity to participate alongside some of the best athletes in other sports, from across the country. AAU Junior Olympic Games athletes have until Friday, July 19, 2024 to register online through their USA Field Hockey Membership Account. If a player declines their invitation, an alternate will be notified.

New Watertown Football Coach Works to Bond With Team, Build Excitement Around the Program

The first official football game is more than four months away, but new Watertown High School football coach Joe Carroll has been busy trying to bond with players, prep them for the upcoming season, and create a team culture. Since he was hired in February, Carroll has been making the most of the time he has with the team in preparation for his first season as a head coach. He takes over the Raiders after serving as assistant coach at Waltham High School for five years. Carroll has put together a schedule and to-do list to keep him focused, and each day he tries to check a few things off the list.

1 Watertown Wrestler First to Compete at Nationals, Another Places at Tourney in New York

A pair of Watertown wrestlers continued their seasons past the state meet, and one made the first appearance and collected the first win by a Raider wrestler at High School Nationals. Senior Tommy Dicker traveled to Virginia Beach, Virginia, on April 5 and 6 to compete at the NHSCA High School Nationals.

Watertown Girls Battles Tough Newburyport in Basketball Tourney

WALTHAM — The State Tournament run for the Watertown girls basketball team ended Tuesday night after running into a team that had already beaten a higher seed in the MIAA Div. 3 Tournament. Newburyport, the 27th seed, made a second half run to defeat the 11th-seeded Raiders 56-48 in a game played at Waltham High School. Senior Emma Garapetian dribbles in the Sweet 16 tournament game against Newburyport.

Watertown Wrestler One of Top in New England, Basketball & Hockey Teams Hit the Road

Watertown’s Tessa Master reached new heights for a WHS wrestler on Saturday when she placed third at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships. The junior’s run of tournament wins that started two weeks prior at the Div. 3 State Meet, continued through All-States, and to the the quarterfinals of the New England meet in Providence. Then she ran into one of the top athletes in the competition, said Watertown Wrestling Coach Kevin Russo.

Late Surge Powers Watertown Boys Basketball Past Shawsheen in State Tourney

Watertown High School’s boys basketball team kept its cool down the stretch and defeated Shawsheen Tech 53-45 Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16 of the MIAA Div. 3 Tournament. The 14th-seeded Raiders (14-7) jumped out to a big first quarter lead, but the Rams fought back to bring the lead to just 1 point with 26 seconds left in the game and had a chance to take the lead.

Watertown Girls Basketball Cruises in Second Half to Grab State Tournament Win

The Watertown High School girls basketball team pulled away in the second half to cruise to a State Tournament victory, but the game abruptly ended with 37.6 seconds left when a referee collapsed and required medical attention. The referee was conscious when he was take to hospital in an ambulance after being treated by Watertown Police officers and others in attendance at the Watertown Middle School Gym. UPDATE: The Boston Herald reported that the referee later died en route to the hospital. The 11th-seeded Raiders won 47-28, but their opponent in the MIAA Div.
