Former WHS Star Climbing Ranks of NCAA D3 Women’s Basketball Assist Leaders

Gabriella Coppola had had quite an encore to her stellar career on the Watertown High School girls basketball team. Now a senior at Endicott College, she has steadily climbed up the list of assist leaders at the Beverly-based college and in all of NCAA Div. III. Coppola, who plays guard for the Gulls, has 15 assists through five games during the 2017-18 season, putting her at 275 for her college career. This is fourth best all-time at Endicott and 30th highest among active D3 players.

Watertown Seniors Close Field Hockey Careers on Top; Raiders Add Ninth Straight Title, 18th Total

After winning the MIAA Div. 2 Field Hockey State Championship on Saturday 5-1 over Oakmont, Watertown High School’s four seniors reflected on the year, and their careers for the Raiders. The seniors were part of some major accomplishments, Watertown field hockey coach Eileen Donahue said earlier in the week during a ceremony when seniors Jonna Kennedy and Maddie Leitner signed their letters of intent to play in college. Donahue noted that they were part of the team to set the nation’s longest unbeaten streak in high school field hockey two years ago, and this year they were there when the team finally lost after more than eight years. Ask the coach or her players, however, and the streak was not a big focus or even a topic of discussion.

Watertown Field Hockey Wins Ninth Straight State Title!

When the Watertown High School field hockey team takes the field for the MIAA Div. 2 State Final Saturday it will be both in familiar and unfamiliar territory.
