Watertown Wrestling Program on the Rise in Time for State Tourney

Watertown High School wrestlers practice moves. The team has been one of the most successful teams in school history. In an otherwise quiet corner Watertown High School, 30-some students work up a sweat and turn the small room into a steam room while doing a workout that looks like it belongs in a Spartan Race and an Army bootcamp. “Most people would be done after that,” said WHS assistant wrestling coach Andrew Scopa. “They are just getting started.”

Watertown Field Hockey Coach to be Honored on Girl & Women in Sports Day

Watertown field hockey coach Eileen Donahue will receive an award at the Massachusetts Celebration of Girls and Women in Sports Day. Watertown High School field hockey coach Eileen Donahue will add to her growing list of accolades during the Massachusetts Celebration of Girls and Women in Sport Day. On Feb. 7, Donahue will be one of four women to receive the Massachusetts Women in Athletics Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented at the annual event held at Faneuil Hall in Boston.

Two Watertown Players Named to Field Hockey All-Scholastic Team

Watertown Field Hockey players Aurise Tattrie (left) and Ally Kennedy made the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic team. Here the pair signed their letters of intent to play in college. The Boston Globe named Watertown High School field hockey players Ally Kennedy and Aurise Tattrie to its All-Scholastic team. The pair added the honor to the list of other achievements this season. Tattrie and Kennedy were also named co-MVP of the Middlesex League Freedom Division.

Watertown Has Not Just 1, but 2 College All-America Field Hockey Players

Watertown’s Michaela Antonellis and Ally McCall both made college All-America field hockey teams this year. A pair of former Watertown High School field hockey teammates have gone on to success in college, and both have been named to the 2019 college All-America teams.

Michaela Antonellis and Ally McCall served as co-captains for the Raiders during their senior year, and now they both earned All-American status as college seniors. They also were part of the Watertown High School team that set the national record for longest consecutive unbeaten streak. Antonellis, who attends Stonehill College, made the NCAA Div. II All-America second team for both the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Synapse Sports All-America.

Watertown Soccer Player Named All-State, Five Make League All-Star Team

Watertown’s Rodrigo Freitas celebrates after scoring the winning goal in double overtime over Dracut in the 2019 North Section quarterfinal. Watertown junior Rodrigo Freitas received several honors following the 2019 boys soccer season, including making the All-State team, League MVP, and was one of five Raiders to make the Middlesex League All-Stars. Freitas and the Raiders won the Middlesex League Small (Freedom) Division and got to the North Section Semifinals. He was one of three Middlesex League players named to the All-State team. The midfielder also made the Middlesex League All-Conference team — the best players from the Small and Large school divisions — and the Eastern Massachusetts All-Stars

Other Raiders on the League All-Stars are senior Gevork Kaapetyan, senior Devon Breen, junior Nicholas DiPace and junior Caiden Kiani.
