WHS Sports: Field Hockey Title Has Family Ties, Cross Country Runner Competes at State Meet, Thanksgiving Game Ticket Info

Charlie BreitroseWatertown field hockey players and sisters Maggie Driscoll, a junior; and Molly Driscoll, a sophomore; pose with their parents Patty Grady and Tim Driscoll after winning the State Championship on Saturday. Grady played on two State Title teams when she was at WHS. When the Watertown field hockey team won the State Championship for the 19th time in school history one family had not just one, but two members of the team plus another who was part of previous titles. Sophomore Molly Driscoll provided the assist on the winning goal scored by Elizabeth Loftus in double overtime. Her sister Maggie, a junior, was a co-captain for the 2021 Raiders.

HANOVER — Patience and hard work paid off for the Watertown High School field hockey team, Saturday. It took more than 77 minutes of play, but the Raiders prevailed 1-0 over Sandwich in the State Final. After a deadlocked hour of regulation play, Watertown and Sandwich went to overtime to decide who was the best team in MIAA Div.

Watertown Field Hockey Returns to the State Final with Victory over Pentucket

The goal was the only one in the Raiders’ 1-0 victory. READING — The Raiders are back where they have been so many times before — the field hockey State Final — after defeating Pentucket 1-0 on Wednesday night. The trip, however, will be the first for the current Watertown players. A goal by freshman Adrianna Williams 3:39 into the first quarter provided early breathing room for second seeded Watertown (22-0) in the MIAA Div.

WHS Sports: Watertown Runner Makes Top 10 at Cross Country Meet, Swimmer Competes at States

Watertown’s runners and swimmers competed at the state level this weekend, showing they could compete with the best in the Bay State. Cross Country

The Watertown girls and boys cross country teams ran in the MIAA Div. 2 meet in Gardner on Saturday, and a sophomore placed among the top finishers. Anna Lonergan finished in eighth place in the girls Div. 2 race.

Four goals by sophomore Molly Driscoll led Watertown in its 6-0 defeat of Dover-Sherborn in Saturday’s MIAA Div. 3 Round of Eight Field Hockey Tournament game. The Raiders added another trophy to its vast collection of awards with Saturday morning’s win at Victory Field. With the MIAA doing away with the sections, the Raiders got a trophy for making the Final Four.

Watertown Rolls Over Oakmont in the Round of 16 Field Hockey Tournament Game

Watertown’s round-of-16 State Tournament game against Oakmont was over by the end of the first quarter, as the Raiders beat the Spartans 6-0 at Victory Field on Wednesday afternoon. Two Watertown players collected a pair of goals, and one player scored her first varsity goal in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament game.
