Turkish Restaurant Serves Traditional Dishes in Longtime Watertown Dining Spot

A spot in town that has long been an eating destination is serving hungry diners once again. Halva Kebab opened in the former New Yorker Diner spot near Watertown Square, and is serving up a wide range of kebabs and other Turkish dishes. While the owners are new to the area, they have a long tradition of running restaurants, said co-owner Joseph Dagdelen. “We have another location in New Jersey,” he said.

New Banh Mi Restaurant Opens in Watertown, Grand Opening This Week

Watertown has a new destination for Vietnamese sandwiches known as banh mi. Boston Restaurant Talk posted that Banh Mi Cafe has opened at 102 Main Street in Watertown. The location is next to O Some Cafe and is across from the Watertown Fire Station. According to the Banh Mi Cafe Instagram site, the restaurant also serves bubble tea. The restaurant will have a Grand Opening celebration on Feb.

Lovers of sweet treats have a new place to shop. Blackbird Doughnuts has opened in Arsenal Yards in Watertown. The artisanal doughnut store opened its newest store on Tuesday, and has plans for a grand opening party, according to social media. “Our Watertown store is finally here.

A restaurant that will serve a variety of dishes, including Turkish food, appears to be headed to the former New Yorker Diner location near Watertown Square. A Watertown News reader sent a photo of the building at 39 Mt Auburn St. has banners hanging on it saying “Halva, Coming Soon!” The banners also mentions barbecue, burgers, and kunefe — a Turkish pastry made with cheese.

Known for its delicious, made–from–scratch doughnuts, Blackbird Doughnuts will open its seventh Massachusetts location at 116 Bond St. in Fall 2023.

Watertown Restaurant Using GoFundMe to Try to Stay Open

Watertown’s Ritcey East has struggled since the pandemic, and owner Max Ritcey has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise enough money to keep the doors open at the Waverley Avenue restaurant. Ritcey said the restaurant has been down tens of thousand dollars behind each month, in part due to paying back COVID loans. The goal is to reach $30,000 by September, and fans have already stepped up to donate more than $22,000 in the first four days. New Italian Restaurant Opens in Center of Watertown
