Watertown Recreation Accepting Applications for Part-Time & Seasonal Positions

The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Recreation Department:

The Watertown Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the following positions for the 2023 calendar year. This includes immediate employment as a part time member of the staff throughout the year or seasonal work during different seasons of the year. Applicants must be entering the 9th grade (Fall 2023) or older to be considered. Positions Available: Program Directors, Program Supervisors, Program Staff, Program Counselors, Counselor in Training, Nurse, Specialists, Pequossette Staff, Park Instructors, Park Rangers, Tennis Supervisor, Coaches and Scorekeepers. If you are looking for employment to begin before the summer season, please complete your application and an interview will be scheduled with the Director of Recreation as soon as your application is completed.

Watertown Rec Offers Pickleball, Community Sports & Games, Open Forum

Pickleball

Based on demand, the Recreation Department has added two more sessions of pickleball beginning Thursday, January 5 at the Hosmer School.  If interested, please registered today. Here are the details. Program:       

Adult Pickleball

Description: 

The adult pickleball program is designed to provide exercise and fun for participants 18 years and older. Players will have the chance to build agility and hand eye coordination while still getting a good workout. The program offers indoor court time to enjoy both leisurely and competitive play in a recreational setting.

Registration Open for Watertown Recreation Winter Session

The Watertown Recreation Department opened registration for the Winter I Session, and has programs for kids, teens, and adults. PreK Indoor Sports is available for ages 3-5, and for children in grades K-2 there is Jr All Sports. For students in grades 3-5 there is All Sports. The Recreation Department also has No Bake Bonanza for youngsters in grades 1-2 and 3-5. Junior Creative Crafts is available for grades K-2, and Creative Crafts for grades 3-5.

See When Watertown Residents Can Use BB&N Fields

The BB&N fields will be open to use by Watertown residents on weekends. The following announcement was provided by the Recreation Department:

The Recreation Department is excited about the new Buckingham Browne & Nichols Athletic Facility which held its grand opening on September 8, 2022. This Complex is state of the art and will be utilized by the athletic and recreational programs offered by the Buckingham Browne and Nichols School as well as the Recreation Department, School Athletic Programs, Youth Groups and will be made available to “Free Play” for “Watertown Residents Only” at scheduled times. See the schedule below. Please follow all rules and regulations that are clearly marked at the facility.

Spots Still Available for Most Watertown Recreation Fall Programs

The Watertown Recreation Department’s fall programs have started, but there are still spaces available in most of the programs. Activities range from age 3 to adult.

Kids sports programs include PreK Outdoor sports for ages 3-5, youth tennis (grades 1-8), Junior All Sports (grades K-2), and All Sports (grades 3-5). This fall there will be Jr. Creative Arts for grades K-2 and Lego BricQ Motion 1 for grades 2-5. The Recreation Department has teamed with the Watertown Police Department to present multiple Cops ‘n’ Rec activities, including: flag football, racket sports, dodgeball, and volleyball. There is also a flag football program for grades 3-5. Artemis Yoga will run classes for kids 6-10 and girls empowerment classes for ages 10 to 14.

2 Summer Basketball League Champs Crowned in One Night

Natalie Nigito PhotographyThird-seeded Control Club topped No. 1-seed Kaos Club 41-33 to claim the O’Brien-Jerhian Legends Summer Basketball League championship on Aug. 30, 2022. Both Watertown Summer Basketball Leagues went to a third and deciding game in their respective finals this week. The competitions, which feature current and former college basketball players, are run by the Watertown Recreation Department, which provided the following accounts:

Championship Tuesday was all that it should be, great competition, big crowd (some legends mixed in), plenty of food and refreshments.

Petting Zoo & Water Slides Coming to Victory Field

The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Recreation Department:

The Watertown Recreation Parks Program will be hosting an exciting and fun filled doubleheader event on Friday, August 12 at our Victory Field Complex. Animal Craze (please use graphic) will have a petting zoo from 10:00am to 12:00pm, while Busy Bee will provide two water slides from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Video Gaming Truck Coming to Watertown, Rec Offers Zoo Trip

Gamers can head to Victory Field for some fun on Thursday, and a trip to the zoo is planned by the Watertown Recreation Department next week. Gaming

The Ultimate Gaming Truck will be at Victory Field on Orchard Street on Thursday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. Watertown residents are invited to come down and play some video games at the free event sponsored by the Recreation Department. More than a dozen people can play at once on game systems including PS5 and Xbox X.

Zoo Trip

On Monday, August 1 the Parks Program will be visiting the Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, which has more than 850 animals on its 200 acres. Participants must be Watertown residents, ages 9 to 18 and registered for the Watertown Parks Program.
