Man Tries to Outrun Watertown Police – Unsuccessfully

A man tried to out drive, and then outrun a Watertown Police officer, but in the end he was caught and placed under arrest. On Nov. 15 at 11:06 p.m., an officer spotted a vehicle speeding on North Beacon Street, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “He observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed – 60 to 70 miles per hour,” Lawn said. “He tried to catch up with the vehicle and put on his lights on Irving Street.”

Man Faces Charges After Punching Officer, Restaurant Owner

A man who was asked to leave a Watertown restaurant allegedly punched the owner and when confronted by police he allegedly punched an officer. On Oct. 4 at 9:32 p.m., Avedis Vartanian, 61, of Somerville, had been sitting at the bar at Stellina Restaurant in Watertown Square when be began going into another room and bothering other customers, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “The owner asked him to leave the restaurant and when he was walking him out Vartannian turned and punched the owner in the face a couple of times,” Lawn said. Police officers across the street came over to tell Vartanian to stop.

Oct. 20, 4:54 p.m.: An officer ran the registration of a Nissan Altima and found the owner had an outstanding warrant. The officer also discovered the driver had a suspended license. The 46-year-old Somerville woman was arrested on the warrant from Cambridge District Court for traffic offenses and a charge of driving with a suspended license.

Man Arrested After Attempting to Steal Tons of Nail Polish

Watertown Police arrested a man who tried to make off with dozens of bottles of nail polish from Stop & Shop. When the man who allegedly tried to steal the items entered the supermarket on Watertown Street on Oct. 24 at 8:48 a.m. an employees recognized the man. He was suspected of taking items on previous occasions, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “The man was seen placing nail polish in his backpack,” Lawn said.

Woman Busted for OUI After Hitting Parked Cars

A woman faces drunken driving charges after allegedly crashing into two parked cars. Watertown Police received a report of an auto accident on California Street on Oct. 18 at 1:55 a.m.

“Officers found a car facing the opposite direction and two parked cars with excessive damage,” said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. The car was heading westbound on California Street when it hit the two vehicles, Lawn said. Officers detected an odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver, identified as Corinne Tess Cartwright, 23, of Watertown.
