Mt. Auburn Cemetery Evacuated While Police Searched for Suicidal Man

Police evacuated Mount Auburn Cemetery after receiving a report that there was a man threatening to commit suicide inside, but the search did not locate anyone. The call came in at 5:47 p.m. Wednesday evening, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “We got information from a third party caller (forwarded from State Police) about a suicidal man inside the cemetery by the Charles River,” Lawn said. “We ended up evacuating Mount Auburn Cemetery, but we found nothing.” Watertown Police were joined by Cambridge Police officers and Massachusetts State Police troopers in the search of the cemetery, which lies in Watertown and Cambridge.

Police Log: Man Busted with Drugs, Driver Arrested on Fourth OUI

July 13, 8:42 a.m.: A man stopped at Dunkin Donuts on Main Street to get a coffee. After he got the coffee he spilled some of it and left his change on the counter as he cleaned the spill, and when he returned the money – about $15 – was gone. A woman was spotted coming up behind him and taking the money off the counter and left the store. The man called police, who tracked the woman down at Main Street and Edenfield Avenue.

Two Women Busted for Shoplifting and Taking a Purse at Target

Two women face charges after allegedly taking merchandise from Target, and one of the women also is charged with taking a purse. Target security spotted two women with two children taking items off the shelf and concealing items under a child’s car seat in a carriage. They were stopped when they attempted to leave the store without paying, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. One of he pair was identified as Isabel Lara-Krasikov, 29 of Mattapan. “As security was detaining them, (security officers) were informed that a customer reported a purse was stolen,” Lawn said.

Police Log: Teen Leads Police on Chase, Shoplifter Assaults Store Security

July 6, 1:04 a.m.: An officer patrolling in Watertown Square spotted a red Dodge pickup with two black stripes turn into the taxi and bus area of Watertown Square, into which passenger cars are not authorized to go. The car headed down Main Street and the turned left toward Pleasant Street. The officer caught up with the pickup on Pleasant at Bridge Street. It took a right into Repton Place, and the officer noticed it did not have a license plate.

Woman Attacks Teen at Sporting Goods Store with Lacrosse Stick

A woman faces assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charges after she allegedly hit a teen-aged boy with a lacrosse stick. The woman had been shopping at Sports Authority with her daughter on the afternoon of July 6 when she began yelling at the 14-year-old boy, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “The woman said the boy was looking at her and said something to her daughter,” Lawn said. “She picked up a lacrosse stick and hit him with it.” Security said the women then left the store and she was later located by police.

Police Log: Man Attacks 2 Police Officers, Shoplifters Try to Take Big Items from Target

June 29, 10:01 p.m.: A motor vehicle accident occurred on Landon Avenue and when police arrived they detected an odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver suffered injuries and was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital for treatment. Police later discovered the driver had prescriptions pills. The 54-year-old Watertown woman was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving under the influence of drugs.

Pregnant Woman Struck by Car While Crossing Mt. Auburn St.

A pregnant woman went to hospital after being struck by a car while crossing Mt. Auburn Street. 

The incident occurred in front of the St. James Armenian Church near School Street on June 24 shortly before 8 p.m., said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “The 26-year-old female had just gotten off the bus and was crossing in the crosswalk when she was struck by a motor vehicle operated by a 19-year-old male from Waltham,” Lawn said. Watertown Firefighters and EMTs responded to the incident and treated the woman, said Deputy Fire Chief Bob Quinn.

Town Manager Appoints a Provisional Police Chief to Replace Deveau

With Watertown Police Chief Edward Deveau retiring, the Police Department will be led by an provisional Police Chief. Town Manager Michael Driscoll announced last week that he has appointed Capt. Raymond DuPuis to serve as provisional chief until a new one is appointed. DuPuis will start his new role on July 8. DuPuis has been in the department since 1983 and was in the same Police Academy class as Deveau. Currently, DuPuis is one of two captains on the Watertown Police Department and leads the bureau of field operations.He oversees the Patrol and Traffic Divisions as well as the Public Safety Dispatchers.
