Summer’s Over, but the Watertown Farmers Market Isn’t – See What’s There

The summer break might be over but you’ll still find a broad variety of the season’s harvest at the Watertown Farmers Market. Local farms and specialty producers continue to gather every Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. through until the end of October. On the front green of the Arsenal on the Charles, right on Arsenal Street in front of Arsenal Center for the Arts, the space is an exceptional place to enjoy the live music, grab a quick snack, and shop for delicious foods to bring home. Among the market’s offerings are farm-fresh vegetables from Kitchen Garden Farm, Paraveda Farm and The Farm School. Apex Orchards have several different varieties of apples.

Owners of Red Lentil Opening New Vegan Cafe in Watertown

The owners of Red Lentil announced the grand opening of their new restaurant in East Watertown. Wild Rice Vegan Cafe will host a grand opening on Jan. 29-30 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 71 Elm Street. The spot was formerly occupied by Grappa. “We’re serving a $9 all-you-can-eat buffet with coffee from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

National Sandwich Chain Opening Location in Watertown Square

A new national sandwich shop will be opening its doors soon in Watertown Square. 

Jimmy John’s will take over one of the spots in the shopping plaza where Staples used to be, at 11 Mt. Auburn St. (at the Watertown Square intersection). Jimmy John Liautaud opened his first restaurant in a converted garage in Charleston, Ill., in 1983 when he was just 19 years old. Now, the company has more than 2,400 locations in 43 states.

New Places to Eat Popping Up Around Watertown

Folks in and around Watertown have a number of new dining options, with new restaurants and cafes popping up around town. 

Perhaps the most visible is Ixtapa Mexican Grill & Cantina, which opened recently at 18 Mt. Auburn Street, right in Watertown Square in the former location of the Verona Restaurant. The local chain has other locations in Eastern Massachusetts, and features a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes, along with a many choices of margaritas.  The restaurant also prides itself in being friendly to families with children of all ages. See When a New Farm-to-Table Restaurant Will Open in Watertown

Watertown’s newest restaurant will feature farm-to-table food with a New American and French flair. 

Royal has already had a soft opening and it will host its Grand Opening on Saturday, March 7. After several months of renovations Royal will officially open its doors at 45 Lexington St., on the corner of Main and Lexington Streets in Watertown. Executive Chef/Partner, Rachid Kourda who has over 20 years of experience in the
restaurant industry, is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner on from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. and features its full menu. “I am not only a chef, but also an artist. The food I create is ‘sexy food’ with
a unique design to each plate.” Kourda said.

Grab Some Grub from Food Trucks in Watertown

Need a bite to eat, try something new at the Commander’s Mansion, which will host food trucks five days a week beginning April 21. The trucks park on Talcott Avenue near the entrance to Arsenal Park,, and will offer a variety of goodies through the week, said Tammy McKenna, facilities manager at the Commander’s Mansion. “Last season we implemented a Food Truck pilot program once/twice a week and it was well received,” McKenna said. “This season we were given the go-ahead to open it up five days and it starts next Monday the 21st (of April) running through October 3rd.” The trucks are open to everyone.
