Unions Donate All Labor, Equipment for Security System in Watertown Boys & Girls Club Renovation

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 103 (IBEW 103) and their partners at the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) are proud to announce that they will donate all equipment and labor for security system upgrades during the Watertown Boys & Girls Club’s upcoming renovation project. The donations from IBEW 103 and NECA follows through on their ongoing commitment to support programs helping young people in local communities. Lou Antonellis, Business Manager of IBEW 103 said, “We are proud to support the Watertown Boys & Girls Club in their upcoming renovations by donating and installing these much needed security equipment upgrades. Many Watertown families rely on the Boys and & Girls Club and the quality services and program they offer. We are happy to do our part to modernize the facility and to help keep Watertown kids safe.”

MLK Day Speaker Stresses Friendship, Unity Award Goes to Boys and Girls Club Head

For the 18th year in a row Watertown celebrated the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., and his legacy during the Unity Breakfast. During the event the keynote speaker talked about his work to make the conversation about race in America a positive and productive one through friendship and love, and the head of the Watertown Boys & Girls Club received the Unity Award. The morning also featured moving readings from the winner of the Watertown Middle School and High School MLK Essay Contest, and performances from singers and rappers. The event took place at the Hellenic Cultural Center on Monday and was sponsored by The World in Watertown. William “Smitty” Smith has some credentials in working to improve race relations in the United States.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Raising Funds to Transform Clubhouse

Watertown Boys & Girls Club, the town’s largest youth development agency, announced the launch of its $1.4 million Great Futures Campaign. Funds
raised by the campaign will be used to renovate and make capital improvements to the Club aimed at expanding teen programs, enhancing accessibility and strengthening security. The centerpiece of the renovation plans is the creation of a Teen Center to create a dedicated space for Club members aged 13-18. The teens will be able to engage in a variety of activities, including career exploration, SAT prep courses and community service, under the guidance of the new center’s Teen Director. The Great Futures Campaign funds will also be used to renovate the entryway to increase building security and to install a fully ADA-compliant ramp to ensure universal
accessibility.

Boys & Girls Club Macy’s Fundraiser, Get Your Tickets for the Club’s Golf Tourney

Watertown Boys & Girls Club announced it is participating in the Macy’s Shop for a Cause Charity Challenge. This friendly competition has non-profit organizations go head to head to see who can raise the most money for their cause. The organization with the most dollars raised at the end of the competition (August 9) wins the grand prize of $100,000 from Macy’s, with runner-ups receiving large prizes as well. There are also added incentives throughout the competition encouraging organizations to meet weekly goals to earn cash prizes. Watertown Boys & Girls Club’s goal is to raise $2,500 during the challenge.

Tufts Health Plan Employees Volunteer to Help Out the Watertown Boys & Girls Club

Tufts Health Plan employees participated in their 9th annual Volunteer Day on Tuesday, the company announced, fanning out across Eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire, helping community organizations with projects ranging from preparing meals for local homeless shelters to providing safer access to the water for athletes with disabilities. Some employees spent the day volunteering at the Watertown Boys & Girls Club at Hale Reservation in Westwood where the Club holds its summer camp. Tasks included cleaning up the area, sectioning off parts of the site for different activities, putting up tents, loading supplies. The Watertown Boys & Girls Club is the largest nonprofit youth service organization in Watertown, serving 1,000 registered members between 7 and 18 years old. “The employees in our organization are extraordinary — they believe very strongly in our mission and demonstrate their commitment to improving the lives of our members and our community each and every day,” said Tom Croswell, Tufts Health Plan president and CEO.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host their annual golf tournament on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Oakley Country Club. The tournament honors one of the Club’s original founding members, Stephen Mugar. His children and grandchildren generously perpetuate his legacy by sponsoring this annual event. The Mugar Family will match the tournament’s net profits up to $80,000, thus making this the largest annual fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club, accounting for nearly 30% of the Club’s yearly revenue. Spots Still Available in Boys & Girls Club’s Camp Hale, Swim Camp

Looking for the right summer camp for your child? Watertown Boys & Girls Club is once again offering two different camp options this year, Summer Adventure: Camp Hale and Summer Swim Camp. Summer Adventure is a camp program for children ages 7-12. The camp is held at Hale Reservation in Westwood where campers participate in a plethora of outdoor activities including lake swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, archery, and more! Weeks are filling up fast so be sure to register soon.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Hosting Kids Night Out on Friday

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host a “Kids Night Out” event on Friday, May 12 from 7 to 10 p.m.

This event is open to any child, age 6 to 12. The event, entitled “Light up the Night”, will feature a variety of “Glow in the Dark” games and “Glow in the Dark” nail painting, as well as free swim, dancing games and music, raffle prizes, snacks and more! All proceeds from the event will benefit the Club’s swim team, the Watertown Wavemakers. Pre-registration is $25, and $20 for each additional child. Day of registration is $30 per child.
