Watertown/Belmont Girls Hockey Skates Into State Quarterfinals

Goals by senior captain Erin McLaughlin and sophomore Aurora Fidler provided the margin of victory as the Watertown/Belmont combined high schools girls’ ice hockey team skated by a resilient Andover High School (19-3-1) squad in a first round match in the Division 1 state championship tournament at Watertown’s Ryan Arena on Saturday. “It was a very exciting game. Maybe too exciting. But we got one under our belts,” said Watertown/Belmont Head Coach Steve Russo to the Belmontonian as his 4th-ranked team advances to the MIAA Div. 1 quarterfinals where it will meet fifth-seed Austin Prep of Reading.

Watertown Boys Hockey Team Rolls Into Section Semifinals

Watertown’s boys hockey team routed Northeast Regional Friday afternoon and moved on to the semifinals of a wide open Div. 3 North Section tournament. The Raiders led 1-0 after one period and then netted two more in the second against the No. 2 seeded team. The game at Chelmsford Forum ended 4-1, improving seventh seeded Watertown’s record to 12-3-7.

Watertown Girls Hoops Holds Off Tewksbury, Sets Up Clash with Belmont

The Raiders girls basketball squad held on to defeat a pesky Tewksbury Thursday night and now have a clash with their rivals in the MIAA Div. 2 North Section semifinals. Undefeated and top seeded Watertown trailed at halftime, 21-19, to eighth seeded Tewksbury (13-9), and led by just one after three quarters Thursday, according to the Lowell Sun. The Raiders, who were led by Shannon Murphy’s 15 points, pulled away to win the section quarterfinal 49-45, according to the Boston Globe report. The Raiders (19-0) now have a rematch with Belmont, the team they beat on the opening day of the season in December.

Watertown Falls in First Round of State Basketball Tournament

A pesky Bedford boys basketball team came into Watertown High School Wednesday night and ended the Raiders season. The sixth seeded Raiders started the game well with a 9-0 run, but the Raiders  in 11-9) fell behind the 11th seeded Bedford team, which earned a MIAA Div. 3 North tourney berth by having a winning record against Div. 3 opponents despite a 6-14 regular season, according to a report on Wicked Local Watertown. The Buccaneers rallied to take a narrow lead at the end of the first quarter and at the half.

Watertown Boys Hockey Team Moves on to Section Quarterfinals

The Raiders’ boys hockey team started the MIAA Div. 3 North tournament with a victory over Dracut Tuesday night. Watertown beat Dracut 3-1 in a game played at Woburn’s O’Brien Ice Rink. The seventh-seed Raiders improved to 11-3-7 and move on to play second seeded Northeast Regional (16-4-0) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the Chelmsford Forum, 2 Brick Kiln Road in North Billerica.

Watertown Hockey Teams Getting Ready for State Tournament

Watertown High School will send both the boys and girls hockey teams to the MIAA tournament with hopes of going farther than last year when both teams lost narrow games. The girls, who have a coop team with Belmont, earned the fourth seed in the Div. 1 tournament with a record of 18-3-1. The Maraiders play the winner of the Andover-Billerica game in a game on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Ryan Arena in Watertown.

Guess Who’s the Number 1 Seed in the State Basketball Tourney!

The Watertown girl’s basketball team will look to keep its undefeated season going as the top seed in the MIAA Div. 2 North section tournament. The boys made the tourney too! The Raiders finished 18-0 and got the top seed. They got a bye for the first round and will host the winner of the Marblehead-Tewksbury game in a quarterfinal on Thursday at 7 p.m., according to the Boston Herald.
