Watertown Beats Newburyport, Moves on to North Section Football Final

The Raiders kept on rolling through the MIAA football playoffs Friday night with a 27-10 victory over Newburyport in the North Section semifinal. Watertown (8-1) got two touchdowns from senior co-captain Vasken Kebabjian in the win at Victory Field on Friday night. The first came in the first quarter when he caught an 8-yard pass from senior quarterback Deon Smith to stake a 7-0 lead. Newburyport (3-5) got a second quarter field goal, but the Raiders got to touchdowns to lead 20-3 at half. Senior Zach Rimsa scored from one-yard out, and then Kebabjian got his second ran one in from 28 yards out.

Watertown Volleyball Team Preparing for First Ever State Tournament Game

The Watertown High School volleyball team has reached a new milestone, by making the MIAA State Tournament for the very first time. The Raiders had to beat Wakefield in a road game, the final one of the regular season, to clinch a spot in the playoffs. Watertown won 3 games to 1 over Wakefield and finished with a record of 10-9, which earned the team a 13th seed in the Div. 2 North Section tournament. In the first round of the tournament, the Raiders travel to play West Roxbury, the fourth seed which has a record of 17-2.

Smith’s Hat Trick of TDs Lead Watertown to Win in First Round of Playoffs

After a slow start, the Watertown High School football team got in sync and rolled over Austin Prep in the first round of the MIAA Div. 3 North Playoffs, Friday night. 

The top-seeded Raiders were lead by senior quarterback Deon Smith, who found the end zone at Victory Field three times in the 34-18 win. The visitors held a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, following a Jake Thain touchdown run and two Watertown fumbles. That lead ended on the first play of the second quarter when Smith ran it in from 27 yards out for the 7-6 Raiders lead. His second touchdown came on a 36-yard run later in the quarter, and a weaving 55-yard run by senior running back Zach Rimsa gave the Raiders a 20-6 halftime lead.
