Sidwalk removal will take place at a major intersection in Coolidge Square this week, and curbs will be removed and replaced on the far eastern end of Mt. Auburn Street. Excavation of the eastbound sidewalk on the corner of Mount Auburn Street and Arlington Street, and on Arlington Street and Grove Street. This work will start on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Learn about travel and parking impacts below.

Sidewalk Work, Lane Shifts and Parking Restrictions on Mt. Auburn Street This Week

Construction of the Mt. Auburn Street Project this week includes work on sidewalks, but business entrances will still be accessible. Also, expect require lane shifts and parking restrictions. See details in the announcement from the City of Watertown, below. Traffic Line Striping – Overnight Work

Traffic line striping is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2026, beginning at 8:00 p.m. and lasting approximately four hours.

Parts of Mt. Auburn to be Repaved in Week of April 21-24

The City of Watertown provided the following Mount Auburn Street Update for the week of  April 21 – April 24, 2026. No work will be performed on Monday, 4/20/2026, due to the holiday. Milling and Paving

Milling (removal of the top layer of pavement) and paving will occur on Mount Auburn Street between Boylston Street and Chauncy Street and on School Street between Porter Street and Adams Avenue. Detours will be in place for this work. Please see details belowTraffic and Sidewalk Impacts

Starting 4/21/2026 through 4/24/2026, a detour will be in place on School Street for milling and paving operations.

Part of School Street to Close This Week for Construction

Traffic and Sidewalk Impacts

Beginning March 30, 2026, a detour will be in place on School Street. Access to School Street from Mount Auburn Street will remain open; however, traffic traveling down School Street toward Mount Auburn Street will be redirected onto Adams Avenue and then back to Mount Auburn Street.

Lane Shifts, Parking Restrictions on Parts of Mt. Auburn Street This Week

Planned roadwork on Mt. Auburn Street will result in lane shifts and areas of restricted parking as drainage and conduit is installed and test pits are dug.
