Drainage Work on Mt. Auburn Street This Week, No Construction Monday

While the majority of the Mt. Auburn Street Project has paused for the winter, drainage work continues on small portions of the roadway. See details in the announcement from the City of Watertown, below. Work is not scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026, due to the holiday.

Crews will perform drainage installation on Mount Auburn Street between Richards Road and Oakley Road. Traffic and Sidewalk Impacts

During this work, you can expect temporary lane shifts and possibly lane closures, but one travel lane in each direction will be maintained on Mount Auburn Street.

Lane Shifts & Parking Restrictions on Parts of Mt. Auburn St. This Week

The Mt. Auburn Street Project includes line striping and tree removal from Dec. 9-12 and there will be lane shifts for motorists and parking restrictions in the areas of the work. See details in the announcement from the City of Watertown, below. Temporary Traffic Line Striping

Crews will be working overnight on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, beginning at 7:00 PM to adjust and complete the temporary traffic line striping on Mount Auburn Street between the Cambridge line and Arlington Street.

Lane Closure Near High School Project for Drainage Installation

Drainage will be installed along Russell Street and Broadway for the Watertown High School project. There will be lane closures from Monday to Wednesday this week. See info provided by Vertex, Watertown’s project manager, below. Please be aware that a drainage liner will be installed on Monday 11/24 from Russell St along the lower portion of Broadway to the drain manhole at 24 Broadway. The duration of this work is expected to take 3 days and will require a one lane closure on Broadway from Monday, 11/24/25 thru 11/26/25.

Sidewalk Closures & Parking Restrictions This Week for Mt. Auburn Street Road Work

The work on the Mt. Auburn Street Project includes lane striping, concrete pouring, drainage and tree installation, and there will be some sidewalk closures and parking restrictions in areas of construction. Traffic line striping is scheduled for Monday, November 17, 2025, beginning at 9 p.m. and lasting approximately four hours. The work will take place in the recently paved area of Mount Auburn Street between Lloyd Road and Boylston Street.

Excavation of the eastbound sidewalk and curbing on Mount Auburn Street between Belmont Street and Arlington Street will continue on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Learn about travel and parking impacts below. Traffic and Sidewalk Impacts

The eastbound sidewalk will be closed for excavation starting on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 7:00 a.m. A bypass sidewalk on the eastbound side will be opened up while this work is being completed.Traffic on Mount Auburn Street will be narrowed and you can expect lane shifts, however traffic will be maintained in both directions. Entrances to driveways and parking lots will be maintained.
