Cambridge Man Arrested for Vandalizing Armenian Church; Watertown Police Log

Watertown Police Chief Justin Hanrahan announced the arrest of a Cambridge man in relation to vandalism at one of Watertown’s Armenian churches in November. See the announcement, and this week’s Police Log, below. Chief Hanrahan is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our investigation into the vandalism incident at St. Stephen’s Armenian Church on November 18, 2024. Thanks to the diligent efforts of our patrol and detective divisions, a Cambridge resident has been identified and will face criminal charges for their actions.

Police Log: Man Wields Knife at Co-Workers, 2 Scooters Stolen

June 28, 9:05 a.m.: Police checked the property in the Watertown Square Plaza on Mt. Auburn St., where Dunkin’ Donuts is located, after the property owner said homeless people had been seen camping and loitering there. Officers spotted man in a back alley on the property. They discovered he had six warrants for his arrest out of Waltham District Court for trespassing.

Police Log: Driver Busted After Driving With No Tire on Rim, Valuables Taken from Apartment

July 15, 1:54 a.m.: An officer who stopped at a red light on North Beacon Street heading toward Watertown Square when he heard a loud scraping noise coming from behind him. He looked in the mirror and saw a grey Ford SUV, with the driver’s side tire completely off the rim. The SUV was driving on its rim, and sparks were coming from the rim as it traveled past the cruiser. When the officer stopped the vehicle, the driver said he had not been in an accident but that he got a flat when he drove over a nail.

Police Log: Gun Pointed at Man Leafletting Houses, Man Busted for Stealing Axe Body Spray

Oct. 31, 11:58 a.m.: Police received a report of a man who had just shoplifted at CVS in Watertown Square. The man was seen placing cans of Axe Body Spray into a backpack and leave the store without paying. The suspect was described as a bald African-American man, wearing gray sweatpants, a gray sweatshirt with a gray backpack.

May 18 3:06 p.m.: Police were contacted by an Standish Road resident and her daughter after they found unusual activity on her bank account. She received a notice from their bank about several pre-authorized withdrawals from the account, and an estimated $30,000 had been taken and deposited into an unknown PayPal account. The account has been frozen by the bank and the family. They were able to recover approximately $22,000.

May 11, 8:07 p.m.: Tufts Health Plan reported that three fraudulent checks had been cashed between March 16 and May 11. The checks were fakes, and were made to look like they were from Tufts. The first was cashed at Shaw’s in Canton for $233.70 on March 16. The second one was made out to Total Wines in Dedham for $750.70.
