OBIT: Marvin Mitchell, 94, Respected Scientist, Served on Watertown Boards

Dr. Marvin Mitchell, 94, of Watertown died at home on Friday, Sept. 29.  A respected scientist who loved oil painting, vegetable gardening, and running, he was down to earth, interested in others, and more likely to arrive at work in sneakers and a hoodie than a white coat. 

He continued to publish scientific papers into his last year, and was still at his lab just two weeks before his death. He was loved by all those who knew him, family, friends, and co-workers. Mitchell was born in 1922 in Toledo Ohio. His parents and older sister Shirley  (who had a successful career as a radio and TV actress) were immigrants from Poland, Jews escaping the Russian Civil War.

OBIT: Jean Sutherland, 82, of Watertown, Devoted Wife and Mother

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 in St. Patrick Church, Watertown at 9 a.m. for Jean M. (Delleville) Sutherland. Mrs. Sutherland, a daughter of the late Eugene and Alice (Kelly) Delleville was born in Watertown, MA. She passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Sept.

OBIT: Alma “Ellie” Petriello, 89, Worked with Disabled Children, Active at St. Pat’s

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday August 16, 2015 in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown, for Alma M, “Ellie” Petriello at 9 a.m.

Mrs. Petriello died in the Wingate of Needham Care Center on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2016 after a long period of declining health. She was 89. Ellie attender the Mass. Hospital School for Crippled Children in Canton. She worked as a child caretaker.

OBIT: Robert D. Donnelly, 64, Watertown High Class of ’69

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Robert D. Donnelly in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown on Thursday July 28, 2016 at 11 a.m.

Mr. Donnelly, a son of the late Francis T. & Veronica M. (Cavanaugh) Donnelly, passed away on Saturday July 23, 2016 in the Brentwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Danvers after a period of declining health. He was 64. Born and brought up in Watertown, Robert graduated from Watertown High School, class of 1969 and later from Mass. Bay College. He worked as a custodian at the Watertown Arsenal for many years.

OBIT: Norman E. White, 86, Auxiliary Police Officer, Served in Korean War

A funeral service will be held on Thursday July 14, 2016 in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown at 12 noon for Norman E. White. Norman, a son of the late John and Winifred (Musselwhite) White, passed away on Saturday July, 9, 2016 in his home. He was 86. Born in Southampton, England, he grew up in Catford, England during the bombings of World War II. In 1952 he and his wife Maria moved to Watertown.

Mrs. Cegli was a daughter of the late Saverio and Marie (Merullo) Toro. She died in the Wingate of Reading Nursing Facility on Sunday afternoon after a long period of declining health. She was 93.

Mrs. Hebert passed away on June 25, 2016 in the Marist Hill Nursing & Rehabilitaion Center, Waltham, after a period of declining health. She was a daughter of the late David S. and Ruth L. (Swetts) Elphick. She was 85. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, she and her family moved to Watertown at a young age, graduating from Watertown High School, class of 1950.
