Revels Set Sail for Boston Harbor Cruise and Sing in First In-Person Event

Revels will set sail on Boston Harbor for a Cruise and Sing. Watertown-based Revels provided the following announcement:

Revels remerges: Join us for a fun night at sea as we sing together in-person for the first time in over a year! Join Revels on August 10th for a Boston Harbor Cruise and Sing with musician and chantey-man David Coffin! Revels is happy to announce the return of one of its most popular summer events, a two-hour sunset Boston Harbor Cruise and Sing! Join us on the spacious Provincetown II for the return of our popular Boston Harbor Cruise and Sings with musician, Harbor historian, and New England’s best-known chantey-man David Coffin leading the fun along with Revels longtime music director George Emlen. We’ll sing sea chanteys and more at the top of our lungs, sip our favorite (adult or children’s) beverage, and enjoy spectacular views of the harbor. There’ll be plenty of time to socialize between sets and David’s historic/hysterical harbor narration is always a treat as well!

This Week’s Watertown Summer Concert Features 50s & 60s Rock, R&B, Garage Rock Music

The second Saltonstall Park Concert will be held on Wednesday, June 30, featuring the Band From U.N.C.L.E.

On their website the group says it is “on a secret mission to bring 50s-60s rock & roll, garage rock and girl group/soul music to the masses.” Gretchen Bostrom provides lead vocals, with Silvertone Steve Coveney on guitar and singing backup, Brian “Double-O” Cutler on drums and backup vocals, and “Wando” Mannell playing bass and singing backup. 2021 Watertown Summer Concert Series Features 12 Dates, Variety of Music

Southbound TrainSouthbound Train will perform at Watertown’s Saltonstall Concert Series. It is one of four concerts that will feature free dance lessons beforehand. The Town of Watertown will host a series of 12 concerts at Saltonstall Park from June to September. Free dance lessons will be provided before four of the concerts by Ballroom in Boston. The Town provided the following information about the concerts:

Revels’ Musical Connections series continues with Beth Bahia Cohen: A Life Story Through Strings, this Sunday, May 23, at 5 p.m., free on Facebook Live! Explore musical traditions from around the world with the #RevelsConnects: Musical Connections series of FREE intimate salon-style performances and companion podcasts, produced in collaboration with the Mass Cultural Council. The series includes virtual 45-minute salon-style performances with a variety of musical tradition bearers hosted on Facebook Live and followed by a companion podcast produced in collaboration with the Mass Cultural Council and hosted by the MCC’s Folk Arts & Heritage Program Manager, Maggie Holtzberg.  

Don’t miss violinist Beth Bahia Cohen in concert this Sunday as she shares her life story through music and takes us on a global adventure through strings! 

Beth Bahia Cohen is a violinist of Syrian Jewish and Russian Jewish heritage. Inspired at a young age by the sounds she heard at family gatherings, she went on to study with master musicians from Hungary, Greece, Turkey, and the Middle East.

Band Making Music Video in Town With Grant from Watertown Cultural Council

Lucretia’s DaggersLucretia’s Daggers (from left – Maxx Charvelle, Lucretia X. Machina, and Donni Darko) is making a music video in Town with the help of a grant from the Watertown Cultural Council. The group’s lead singer Lauri Murphy, aka Lucretia X. Machina, has lived in Watertown for 30 years. Most know her as Lauri Murphy, but the Watertown resident goes by Lucretia X. Machina when she sings lead for Lucretia’s Daggers, a band that is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To celebrate, the group is making a video of one of their songs around Watertown with the help of an arts grant and funds raised through a crowd-funding website. Murphy has lived in Watertown for 30 years, and is a founding member of the Watertown Environment & Energy Efficiency Committee (WE3C).
