Twenty years ago SETU emerged as a theatrical troupe introducing Greater Boston to Indian drama. Since its 2003 founding it has staged 30 plays spanning reenactments of historical epics, sketches of love, and contemporary socio-economic realities such as casteism. Equally amazing as its breadth in shows is the fact it operates entirely as a non-profit.

Mosesian Arts Plans First Holiday Makers Market, Deadline Approaching

The following announcement was provided by the Mosesian Center for the Arts:

The Mosesian Center for the Arts, at the Arsenal on the Charles in Watertown, will hold its first Holiday Makers Market on November 25 and 26. The arts center invites artists working in ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, painting, illustration, fine arts, fiber, metals, glass, and mixed media to apply. Artists will display and sell their work in the gallery and performance spaces. Fees will be charged for tables, but no commission or portion of sales will be taken. Member artists of the arts center receive a discounted rate. The deadline for artists to apply to participate is Sunday, October 15. Further details and a link to the application form are on the Mosesian Arts website at www.mosesianarts.org.

Mosesian Arts to Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Watertown Children’s Theatre

In 1983, Watertown resident Dinah Lane launched Watertown Children’s Theatre with an inaugural production performed on the stage of Watertown High School. Over the 40 years since, more musicals, productions of classical, contemporary, and original plays, as well as classes and workshops have brought together tens of thousands of children, families, and audience members from Watertown and beyond. When the Mosesian Center for the Arts opened in 2005 (as the Arsenal Center for the Arts), Watertown Children’s Theatre was one of its resident companies.

Local Favorites Old & New Featured in Charles River Chamber’s “Get to Know Watertown Video”

On Friday, the Charles River Regional Chamber is releasing the first of four videos to promote Watertown, Wellesley, Newton and Needham to visitors. “Get to Know Watertown” features a mix of iconic establishments, cultural attractions and new destinations throughout the city, including Donohue’s Bar & Grill, Sevan Bakery, the Mosesian Center for the Arts and Bar ‘Cino.  

The “Get to Know” videos are the second phase of the chamber’s “Take A Trip Up the Charles” campaign launched in 2022 designed to encourage visitors to Greater Boston and people who live in neighboring communities to explore the many offerings in these vibrant communities located just a few miles upstream along the Charles. “Our goal is to support our local economy by highlighting scenic, historic, cultural, recreational, lodging, dining and retail destinations that make our communities unique to those visiting the region, or from the next community over,” said Chamber President Greg Reibman. 

“We had a lot of fun working with so many business owners across Watertown to make this video,” Reibman added.  “We also wanted to thank the folks at City Hall who helped provide many of the events and public art photos that are such an important part in telling why everyone should get to know Watertown.”

Reibman said he hopes everyone who enjoys the video will share it with customers, e-newsletters and on their social media feeds.  

The $16,500 campaign is funded by Meet Boston! and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.

Register for Fall Classes at Mosesian Center for the Arts, Call for Photographs

Registration has opened for fall classes for youth and adults in visual and performing arts at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. A call for art for a fall photography exhibition is also open, and onsite studio space is available for weekly use by local artists. Visual and Performing Arts Classes

Mosesian Arts offers over thirty performing and visual arts classes for children, teens, and adults. Visual arts classes include painting, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media for adults, and fiber arts, comics, jewelry making, and introductory classes for young artists. Classes in the performing arts include acting, voice, improv, playwriting, and technical theater.
