Mural Making, Kingian Nonviolence Training & Civil Rights Leader Coming to Watertown

This spring there will be many ways for community residents, both young and old, to get involved with Watertown’s Kingian Nonviolence initiative, said local organizers. Kingian nonviolence is a train- the-trainer model created by civil rights leader, Dr. Bernard Lafayette, that applies Dr. Martin Luther King’s philosophy and methods to current conflicts. Community Mural Project: One way to get involved is through a mixed media mural to be created on the back wall of the Watertown Boys & Girls Club. On March 3rd, 17th, and 31st project organizers will host a series of free tile painting/making and mosaic-building workshops at HATCH Makers’ Space (20 Summer St.), to create pieces of the mural. There will also be a free tile painting/making workshop at the Mosesian Center for the Arts on March 10th as part of a Spring Festival.

The brainchild of Boston Musician and Author Jen Trynin and bookstore connoisseur Tim Huggins, Earfull first launched in the Fall of 2001 with the concept that, given a conducive environment, book people will appreciate being exposed to live music, and rock people will realize how cool it is to hear great authors reading their work aloud! EARFULL aimed to provide that environment, combining prominent author readings with established singer-songwriters in the hopes of broadening the appreciation of and audiences for both. After a brief hiatus from multiple sold-out seasons of the series, the Mosesian Center for the Arts brought the beloved programming back for a second season to a whole new audience. Mosesian Center Members have access to a limited number of pre-sale tickets Friday, August 18 at 12pm, and tickets to the General Public will go on sale Monday, August 21, at 12pm.

MetroWest Opera’s La Femme Boheme Touches on Familiar Issues, Coming to Town

MetroWest Opera will run the regional premiere of La Femme Bohème at the The Charles and Dorothy Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. Music Direction by Tian Hui Ng. Stage Direction by Julia Mintzer. This all-female version of Puccini’s classic—first produced in Austin, Texas by Local Opera, Local Artists (LOLA)—is a wholly reimagined, contemporary retelling of the iconic La Bohème. In the current politically tumultuous climate where the most vulnerable in our society are facing constant threats, La Femme Bohème brings new perspective to Puccini’s score and asks the audience to examine gender roles and stereotypes.
