Middle Schoolers Can Learn About Careers at Minuteman After-School Program

Middle school students can learn about the career pathways offered by Minuteman High School at after school programs in March. The following announcement was provided by Minuteman High School:

Minuteman High School will hold an after-school program for middle school students in March that provides an opportunity to explore hands-on, project-based, career and technical education, which will expose students to the career majors Minuteman has to offer. Registration is now open for the Career Pathway Program for Middle Schoolers, which will be held Mondays and Wednesdays in March — March 9, 11, 16, and 18 — from 4:15-6:15 p.m. This program provides bus transportation from each in-district middle school to and from Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School, 258 Marrett Road (Route 2A), Lexington. The Career Pathway Program for Middle Schoolers provides the following courses, which mirror those offered to Minuteman’s high school students:

Culinary Arts and Hospitality: Students will be exposed to project-based learning in the fields of culinary and baking inside Minuteman’s new stainless-steel kitchen and bakery. Trades and Transportation: This pathway allows students to spend one day in each of Minuteman’s four trades and transportation career majors: electrical, carpentry/construction, automotive, and plumbing/heating.

Minuteman Offering February Vacation Programs for Grades 1-12

The following announcement was provided by Minuteman High School:

Minuteman Community Education, located at Minuteman High School in Lexington, is offering engaging, hands-on learning programs for students in grades 1-12 during February school vacation, from Tuesday, February 18-Friday, February 21. 

February vacation learning programs for grades 1-8 include Artrageous Art; Aspiring Chefs; Beginner Baking; Creative Writing; Digital Photography; The Language of Java (computer programming); Business Sharks; Earth, Space, and Sea; and Expert Architects. 

Minuteman also offers a driver’s education course for students in grades 9-12. Morning sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions run from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 pm. Students can register for just one program or bring lunch and stay the full day. The programs are free for residents of Minuteman’s district towns: Acton, Arlington, Bolton, Concord, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Needham, and Stow. Watertown is not a district member, and courses will cost between $199 and $244. Minuteman Community Education is a continuing education program for Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School, offering a wide range of enrichment and skill development for children and adults of all ages.

Two from Watertown Named Student of the Term at Minuteman High School

Minuteman High School has selected four outstanding students as Students of the Term for Term 1 of the current school year. The honorees are freshman Saleena Khan of Watertown, sophomore Carter Gruca of Lancaster, junior Zoha Bibi of Watertown, and senior Nicholas Moy of Concord. This honor is awarded every term to one student from each grade level based upon nominations from the staff. The criteria include character, attendance, improvement and academic success, according to Assistant Principal Brian Tildsley.

Minuteman High School Running Girls in STEM Camp During February Break

The following information was provided by Minuteman High School:

Minuteman High School will hold its fifth-annual Girls in STEM Camp for any interested female students in seventh and eighth grade during February school vacation, from Tuesday, Feb. 18 to Friday, Feb. 21, at the school’s new state-of-the-art facility in Lexington. With only about 25 percent of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) jobs in the United States held by women, the Girls in STEM Camp is a direct effort to engage female students in fun and hands-on learning that could shape their future education and careers. The Girls in STEM Camp involves activities led by Minuteman High School students who are in the school’s Girls in STEM mentoring program, along with faculty advisors.

Students Welcomed to New Minuteman High School Building

An inviting Student Union, a theater outfitted with an impressive array of professional-grade features, and a spacious restaurant with a café, a bakery sales area and a patio that seats two dozen guests are some of the marquee elements in a new school building in Lexington. Although it probably sounds more like a college facility, it’s actually the new, state-of-the-art, visually striking $145 million Minuteman High School, which opened its doors to students for the first time on September 3.
