Players & Buddies Wanted for Watertown Challenger Baseball

Registration is officially open for the 2024 Challenger baseball season. 

The first day will be Sunday April 28 10 a.m. at BB&N field (next to Filippello Park). 

Watertown Challenger Baseball program allows children with special needs to participate in little league baseball in a safe environment.  We are eagerly looking for players & “buddies” to help athletes.  

What is Challenger Baseball? The Challenger Baseball League is a program for developmentally and physically challenged youth (age 8-21), helping them to enjoy the full benefits of baseball in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

Free Bike Helmets Being Given Out at Little League Opening Day

Watertown’s Little League baseball and softball teams line the diamond at Casey Park on opening day. The following information was provided by the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee:

As part of its Project KidSafe campaign, the Boston personal injury law firm of Breakstone, White & Gluck recently donated 100 children’s bicycle helmets to the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee. The helmets were given away to children at Watertown Little League Opening Day, April 27, 2019. Since 2013, Breakstone, White & Gluck and its Project KidSafe campaign have given away more than 25,000 bicycle helmets to children across Massachusetts. To reach children who need a helmet, Breakstone, White & Gluck has partnered with more than 40 organizations, police departments and bicycle committees.

White Sox Capture 2017 Watertown Little League Championship

The White Sox won the best-of-three series over the Diamondbacks to win the Watertown Majors League Championship. 

The first game was very close because of great pitching from the White Sox’s Robbie Iannetta and Mason Lombard and the Diamondback’s Zane Davis and Daniel Tattrie, said White Sox Manager Rob Iannetta. It took two extra innings to decide this one but with 2 out and men on first and second in the 8th inning Caden Salzman came through with the walk-off base hit scoring Cam Reed to win the game for the White Sox 3-2. In game 2 the White Sox bats came alive as James Grady, Cam Reed and Mason Lombard combined for 7 hits and 5 runs, Iannetta said. The White Sox played great defense all year and this game was no exception, behind Riley Donlan’s 2 hit shutout and solid plays by Jack Kelley, Antonio Puleo, Owen Newlon, Mike Nilan, Jack Brennan and Lucas Pizzutto the White Sox won 11-0.

Play Ball! See What’s Planned for Watertown Little League Opening Day

Watertown’s young baseball and softball players will start the season with a flurry of games on Opening Day. 

Teams will gather at Saltonstall Park and then march through Watertown Square over the bridge and finish at Casey Field on Watertown Street. Opening ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. and then players will take part in games, drills and will take individual and team pictures. Opening Day Schedule
7:45 a.m. – Players, Managers and Coaches assemble at Saltonstall Park

8:30 a.m. – Sharp Parade leaves Saltonstall Park. 8:50 a.m. – Parade arrives at Casey Field

9:00 a.m. – Opening Ceremonies

9:30 a.m. – Instructional & T-Ball: All Teams, Drills

10:15 a.m. – A Level Baseball: All Teams, Drills

11:00 a.m. – AA Level Baseball: All Teams, Drills

12:00 p.m. – AAA Level Baseball: Brewers vs Athletics @ Bemis

12:15 p.m. – Girls Softball 14U Needham vs Watertown

2:15 p.m. – AAA Level Baseball: Cubs vs Diamondbacks @ Casey

4:15 p.m. – Majors Baseball: White Sox vs Royals

6:30 p.m.- Majors Baseball: Diamondbacks vs Brewers
