Former Watertown Hockey Player Named Coach of Prep School

Watertown High School graduate Mike Busconi will take the helm at The Winchendon School as the prep school’s head hockey coach. Busconi played for Watertown High School and served two years as captain. He made the Middlesex League All-Star team in 2012. After WHS, he attended The Winchendon School for a Post-Graduate year. “Super excited about it to be back,” Busconi told the New England Hockey Journal.

Watertown Pro Hockey Player Earns League Award for Perseverance, Sportsmanship

The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced that defender Lauren Kelly of the Boston Pride has been selected as the Denna Laing Award recipient for the 2022-23 regular season. The award was determined by Denna and her family and goes to the player who most exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport. “Selecting the winner of this year’s Denna Laing Award was extremely difficult because there were many deserving candidates, each traversing their own adversity with relentlessness and a positive attitude,” said Laing. “This year’s winner, Lauren Kelly, has garnered the respect of her coaches, teammates, opponents, officials, and fans.

Last Second Goal Lifts Watertown into Hockey State Semifinal

A breakaway goal with five seconds left in the MIAA Div. 3 Boys Hockey Elite Eight vaulted Watertown/Wayland past host Nauset, 3-2, and into the Final Four for the second straight season. Just as it appeared the game played at Charles Moore Arena in Orleans would head into overtime and the puck in the Nauset offensive zone, junior Mauricio Souza grabbed the puck, skated down ice and buried the puck in the Warriors’ net to clinch the win for the fifth-seeded Raiders.

Watertown Hockey Blows Past Dracut, Books Trip to the Cape for State Quarterfinal

Having survived a double overtime in the first round of the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament, the Watertown High School boys hockey team skated to a relatively easy victory Saturday night, putting half a dozen goals on the scoreboard against Dracut/Tyngsboro. The Raiders won the Round of 16 game 6-2 at John A. Ryan Arena. Watertown Coach John Vlachos was confident his players would be ready.

Raiders Boys Hockey Triumphs in 2 Overtimes in State Tournament

Watertown defeated the visitors from Southeastern Regional Vocational Tech, 3-2 on Wednesday night at John A. Ryan Arena. State Tourney: Watertown Boys Hockey Highly Seeded; Girls & Boys Hoops Get Home Games

Watertown High School’s boys hockey team will seek a second straight trip to the Garden as the fifth seed in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament. The girls and boys basketball teams will host a home game in the State Tourney.

The 2022-23 season has been a hot and cold one for the Watertown High School boys hockey. The Raiders appear to be heating up in the latter half of the season as they look to return to the Garden for a second straight state final. The Raiders started the season winning four of their first seven games, and tying one. Then Watertown dropped four of six, and added another tie.
