Watertown High School’s boys hockey players piled onto each other after the Raiders scored the winning goal in a dramatic double overtime victory in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament Round of 32 game. Watertown defeated the visitors from Southeastern Regional Vocational Tech, 3-2 on Wednesday night at John A. Ryan Arena. Watertown High School’s boys hockey team will seek a second straight trip to the Garden as the fifth seed in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament. The girls and boys basketball teams will host a home game in the State Tourney.

The 2022-23 season has been a hot and cold one for the Watertown High School boys hockey. The Raiders appear to be heating up in the latter half of the season as they look to return to the Garden for a second straight state final. The Raiders started the season winning four of their first seven games, and tying one. Then Watertown dropped four of six, and added another tie.

BOSTON — The Watertown High School boys hockey team made all the right moves on the way to the TD Garden, and the Raiders looked like they might have one last magical moment to clinch the MIAA Div. 4 State Championship. In the second overtime, however, it was Sandwich that found the puck magic, prevailing 3-2. Coming inches short of the school’s second state championship is not bad for a team that basically didn’t exist five years ago.

LOWELL — All season, the goal of the Watertown High School’s boys hockey team has been “Getting to the Garden,” but the dream almost slipped away in the Final Four game against Middlesex League rival Stoneham. The coaches gave the Raiders a simple goal: win the next 15 minutes. In the first period, second-seeded Watertown (14-9-1) played a fast, flowing game, which has been very successful so far in the MIAA Div.

LOWELL — Watertown High School’s Mason Andrade broke a 3-3 tie in the third period to beat Stoneham and send the boys hockey team to the MIAA Div. 4 State Final on Sunday. The Raiders jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead with two goals from Alec Banosian and the third from Michael Cormier.
