Guess Who’s the Number 1 Seed in the State Basketball Tourney!

The Watertown girl’s basketball team will look to keep its undefeated season going as the top seed in the MIAA Div. 2 North section tournament. The boys made the tourney too! The Raiders finished 18-0 and got the top seed. They got a bye for the first round and will host the winner of the Marblehead-Tewksbury game in a quarterfinal on Thursday at 7 p.m., according to the Boston Herald.

WHS Girls’ Teams Grab League Titles, Runner Breaks His Own Record

Watertown’s girls’ teams have had a successful winter, with the hockey and basketball teams grabbing league championships. The hockey team, which is a joint team with Belmont, won the Middlesex League Freedom Division with a 7-2 win at Stoneham and a 5-0 win against Wilmington. They then beat Medford 6-1 and Melrose 4-0. The Raiders have a record of 16-3-1 and are ranked 7th in the Boston Globe Top 20 and ESPN Boston ranked them 11th. The girls’ hoops team just keeps rolling and is 17-0 after a 56-28 win over Melrose.

Watertown Runner Sets School Record; Girls’ Hoops Keep Winning

Watertown runner Austin Lin continues to turn in amazing times during the indoor track season. 

After running the seventh fastest 400 meters in the nation earlier this year, he ran the 600 in a school record time at the MSTCA Elite Meet/Coaches Invitational on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston. The time of 1:23.02 placed Lin fourth in the event which features many of the best high school track and field athletes in Massachusetts. The Raiders put their unbeaten record on the line against another undefeated team Friday night, and Watertown came out on top. Woburn led the Liberty Division of the Middlesex League – the big school division – but fell to the top team in the small school division – the Freedom Division.

WHS Sports: Raiders Girls’ Basketball, Boys Hockey on a Roll

Watertown’s girls’ basketball and boys’ hockey teams enjoyed a successful winter break by wracking up the wins. The Raiders girls’ basketball squad won the Bellingham Tournament holiday tournament with victories over Natick and Bellingham. Then the team came home and beat Wakefield 53-34 to improve to 6-0, according to the report in The Raider Times, WHS’s student newspaper. Watertown’s boys’ hockey team skated to a five game unbeaten streak, on the strength of two shutouts by senior goalie Anthony Busconi.

Watertown Girls’ Basketball Team Takes Down Belmont

Watertown opened the girls’ basketball season on a high note by taking down rival Belmont, Tuesday night. 

Watertown took an early lead, leading 13-4 at the end of the first quarter, but the Marauders fought back to tie the game in the third quarter. The Raiders pulled away and won the game at Watertown Hight School 53-42. Watertown was lead by junior Nicole Lanzo’s 11 points. Junior guard Felicia Korte scored 10, and senior guard Gianna Coppola and junior guard Michaela Antonellis added 8 apiece.
