WHS Sports: Football Wins 2nd Straight; Field Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball & Cross Country in Post Season

The Watertown High School football team has rediscovered its winning ways, defeating Arlington Catholic this week 33-7. The Raiders won their opening game before dropping seven straight. A week ago, Watertown defeated Greater Lowell 30-24 in a non-playoff, non-league game. Thursday Watertown made it two straight.

While the Watertown High School field hockey team has made headlines with a national record setting effort and an undefeated record, two other teams made the MIAA state tournament, and other individual Raiders are competing at the State Level. Volleyball

Watertown’s girls volleyball team finished 7-15 and made the State Tournament for the second time ever. The Raiders are ranked 31st in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament and be the home team in a preliminary round game against St.

Watertown High School Sports Teams Using Alternate Facilities During 3 Years of Construction

They finished the 2022 season playing Belmont on the home field of the Boston Red Sox. Moving to a temporary school and dealing with a field undergoing a turf replacement has required Watertown High School’s athletics program to be creative. Watertown High School moved out of the old building on Columbia Street into the temporary modular school at PFC Richard Moxley Field for the start of the 2023-24 school year. WHS will also make use of facilities at the nearby Watertown Middle School, including for some of the sports programs. The new high school is expected to take three years to be constructed, and will be built on the same site as the old school.

Nearly 2 Dozen Watertown Athletes Named League All-Stars

The Watertown Public Schools announced that 23 Watertown Raiders athletes have been recognized by the Middlesex League as All-Stars for the Fall 2022 sports season. See the announcement below:

The state champion Raiders field hockey team saw five players pick up honors. Senior co-captains Lizzie Loftus and Maggie Driscoll were named to the All-Conference team and were crowned Co-MVPs of the Freedom Division. Junior Molly Driscoll also earned All-Conference honors.

BOSTON — Watertown defeated Belmont in a special Thanksgiving game played at one of the most storied sporting arenas in America. The Raiders won the 100th game played in the Thanksgiving rivalry, this year played at Fenway Park on Wednesday night. Check out images from the revelry in and around the game. Watertown Triumphs at Fenway in 100th Game Against Belmont

BOSTON — After letting their rivals from Belmont tie the score on the stroke of halftime, Watertown High School’s football team took control of in the second half to win an extra-special Thanksgiving eve game played under the lights at Fenway Park, 21-7. Watertown Head Coach John Cacace said he had a simple message to inspire the team at halftime. “It feels great man, we work all year to finish it up just like this and I’m so happy for our kids, the way we played the second half,” Cacace said. “I challenged them at  halftime to come out tougher and we did, man.”

Watertown Beats Belmont in the 100th Football Game at Fenway, 21-7

After clashing 99 times in Watertown and Belmont on Thanksgiving, the 100th matchup will take place at the home of the Boston Red Sox on the eve of Turkey Day. Follow live updates from the game here! Fourth Quarter
