Watertown Football Team Wins Home Opener Over Plymouth South

The Watertown Hight School football team took down Plymouth South 24-6 Friday night in an non-league game that could be very helpful in the Raiders’ efforts to get back into the playoffs. Watertown improved to 2-0 on the season and the team was led once again by the feet and arms of senior quarterback Deon Smith. Smith drove down the field on the Raiders’ first possession for the opening score at Victory Field. Much of the yardage came from Smith’s running, but senior Vasken Kebabjian picked up a good chunk on a run of his own. The touchdown came on a run around the left side by Smith from five yards out.

Raider Romp Over Arlington Catholic in First Football Game

Just like last year, the Watertown High School football team opened with Arlington Catholic, but unlike last year the result of the game was never in question. The Raiders played Arlington Catholic on the road in Medford, and came away with a 48-7 victory. Last year the Raiders needed a late comeback to win. Coach John Cacace’s team was lead by senior quarterback Deon Smith, who had two rushing touchdowns and another TD pass, according to the report on Wicked Local Watertown. Senior Vasken Kebabjian added two more touchdowns and junior Mange Camara had a touchdown and five extra points.

Last Minute Field Goal Lifts Watertown Over Belmont on Thanksgiving

Watertown’s 24-22 win over Belmont wasn’t pretty, but a Thanksgiving Day win is always satisfying.

The Raiders (7-4) let an 11 point second half lead slip away, and seemed like they were heading for defeat at their hands of their archrivals after Watertown failed to convert on fourth down and Belmont (4-7) began running out the clock. Watertown finally stopped the Marauders and got the ball back at its own 19 with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter. broadstreet.zone(17399);

Junior quarterback Deon Smith drove the Raiders to the Belmont 18. Along the way avoiding turnovers twice – first falling on his own fumble and then a Belmont defender dropped an interception in the end zone. On came Watertown kicker Conor Kennelly with 18 seconds left. He split the uprights and had plenty of length to spare.

Stoneham Too Big a Hurdle for Watertown Football to Overcome

STONEHAM – The Raiders valiantly tried to catch up to Stoneham after falling behind in the first half, but could not overcome the Spartans in the battle for the Div. 4 North Section football title, Friday night. Watertown had beat Stoneham at Victory Field last month, but the second time was not the charm. A potent Spartan running attack and errors by the Raiders proved costly. The Raiders found themselves down 20-0 late in the first half after a 53-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Cann to Tim Russell, a fumble returned 22-yards for a score by Shane Collins and a long drive ending in a 4-yard touchdown run by Evan Taylor.
