Fire Department Awards Medals to Two Men Who Helped Prevent a Serious Blaze

The quick action of a pair of men in a barbershop on Galen Street early on a January morning prevented serious damage in a building that is home to multiple businesses. This week, the Watertown Fire Department awarded them with a Fire Service Awards. On Jan. 18, 2024, at about 6:45 a.m., a fire alarm went off for a restaurant on Galen Street, and fire crews arrived to find the restaurant’s steel door had already been opened by Omar Omolade of 1st Yard Barbers, and customer Amitabh Agrawal.

Watertown Firefighters, Others Honored for Life Saving Actions

Last week, the Watertown Fire Department honored several firefighters, police officers and others for their life-saving actions during medical emergencies. Normally, the Fire Department would present the awards at a public ceremony, Fire Chief Bob Quinn said. “It was our hope to present these at a more formal ceremony last March but COVID sidetracked us,” Quinn said. “We did individual presentations instead.” Revival of Person Not Breathing

Watertown Fire Chief Awards Fire, Police Personnel for Saving a Life

Members of the Watertown Fire Department, Police Department and emergency dispatchers received awards on Friday for the work they did helping to save a man from choking. Watertown Fire Chief Bob Quinn announced the awards during a ceremony where the Fire Department also swore in new firefighters and officially promoted two others. On the evening of Dec. 7, 2018, a call came in for a man with an obstructed airway at Conley’s Pub & Grill on Belmont Street. “Upon arrival, Engine 2 encountered a very crowded restaurant and was able to make contact with the male patient,” Quinn said.
