Eleven Watertown High School athletes from five teams made the Middlesex All-Stars during the 2020 Fall Season. Football and girls volleyball will be held during the MIAA’s Fall II Season, due to begin in February. Watertown school officials decided to not hold swimming this year because the program is a coop one with Arlington, which would have required students from both schools mixing each day, according to an Athletics Subcommittee report at the Watertown School Committee. Athletes can register now for the Winter Season, which includes boys and girls basketball and boys and girls hockey.

Watertown Field Hockey Team Improves to 3-0, Featured in Boston Globe Story

The shortened fall season is underway for the Watertown High School field hockey team, and the Raiders have continued their winning ways. Monday, Watertown beat Melrose 5-0 and improved to 3-0 without allowing any goals. On Saturday, Watertown shut out Wakefield 5-0 in the second game of the year. Molly Driscoll leads the team with six goals, Ellie Monahan has four and Maggie Driscoll gas three goals, according to reports on the Watertown Athletics’ Twitter.

See the 2020 Watertown High School Fall Sports Schedules

The abbreviated fall high school sports, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, started this week when the Watertown High School golf team took on Wilmington, and other teams will be debuting this weekend. Six fall sports teams will be competing this year: boys and girls cross country, field hockey, boys and girls soccer and golf. Meanwhile, the football, volleyball, swimming and cheerleading teams will wait until “Fall II” which begins in February. Most of the teams will have 10 competitions. The boys and girls cross country teams will have five apiece.

High School Sports to Look Much Different During 2020-21

Many details remain up in the air for high school sports this school year, but some things are already clear: there will be no Thanksgiving Day football game and no field hockey state championship for Watertown this year. The COVID-19 pandemic will have a great impact on Massachusetts high school sports, particularly on the fall season, which will have no state tournaments in 2020 (tourneys in other seasons have not been decided yet). Also, the football season will be delayed until early 2021. The MIAA announced those and other details about high school sports last week.

Watertown Field Hockey Coach to be Honored on Girl & Women in Sports Day

Watertown field hockey coach Eileen Donahue will receive an award at the Massachusetts Celebration of Girls and Women in Sports Day. Watertown High School field hockey coach Eileen Donahue will add to her growing list of accolades during the Massachusetts Celebration of Girls and Women in Sport Day. On Feb. 7, Donahue will be one of four women to receive the Massachusetts Women in Athletics Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented at the annual event held at Faneuil Hall in Boston.

Two Watertown Players Named to Field Hockey All-Scholastic Team

The Boston Globe named Watertown High School field hockey players Ally Kennedy and Aurise Tattrie to its All-Scholastic team. The pair added the honor to the list of other achievements this season. Tattrie and Kennedy were also named co-MVP of the Middlesex League Freedom Division.
