The Watertown field hockey team learned who it will play in the State Tournament as they seek a sixth straight crown. The top seeded Raiders will host the quarterfinal of the MIAA Div. 2 North Section field hockey tournamentagainst the winner of the Wilmington (eighth seed, 9-4-3)-Newburyport (ninth, 9-5-4) game. Watertown will play on Friday, Oct. 31 at 2:30 p.m. at Victory Field.
Watertown enjoyed success under the Thursday night lights at Victory Field. The Raiders beat Wakefield 40-22 on a rare Thursday night contest. Nick Giordano ran for a couple of first half touchdowns, according to a report in the Boston Globe. Watertown improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Middlesex League. Field Hockey
Watertown beat Reading 3-0 in field hockey on Thursday to extend the team’s unbeaten streak to 125.
Watertown field hockey coach Eileen Donahue will be featured in a piece on WCVB Channel 5 on Oct. 2. SportCenter 5 anchor Mike Lynch will talk to Donahue about the Raider’s record breaking winning streak for the High 5 feature during the 11 p.m. newscast on Thursday, Oct. 2. If you drive by Watertown High School you will notice some large numbers posted in the window. These signify the success of the Watertown field hockey team. The numbers are both large in size – around five feet high – and what the stand for – the Raiders unbeaten streak. On Thursday the number “121” was displayed but Athletic Director Michael Lahiff will have to add another 2 after Watertown defeated Lincoln-Sudbury 7-0 on Thursday afternoon. The game was well in hand after at halftime, when the Raiders held a 5-0.
Watertown continued its success on the football and field hockey turf this week. The Raiders traveled to play Shawsheen in football on Saturday and came away 26-6 victors. The Boston Globe reports that Zach Rimsa scored two touchdowns for Watertown. The Raiders improve to 2-0 and play at Stoneham on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
The field hockey team has now stretched its unbeaten streak to 121, after beating Winchester 7-0 on the road and Wakefield 6-0 at home.
Two former Watertown Raiders scored goals in Stonehill College’s 4-0 win over Bentley in field hockey on Wednesday. Junior Lauren Giordano scored the lone goal of the first half just 2:57 in to the game and the first one in the second half as the fifth-ranked nationally Skyhawks won the game played in Waltham. Fellow Watertown grad Erika Kelly finished the scoring for Stonehill. She also earned an assist in the game, which improved the Skyhawks to 4-0. Giordano scored her third game-winning goal of the year against Bentley.
The Raiders hit the field for another season this week, taking on their rivals from Belmont. Watertown’s field hockey team defeated Belmont 4-0 in season opener at Victory Field. The Raiders next host Arlington on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
The Raiders boys soccer team starts the season with two home games. First they face Belmont on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Victory Field, and then host Arlington on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The girls soccer soccer team hits the road for the first two games against Belmont and Arlington. They come home to face Winchester on Thursday at Moxley Field.

In case you missed the Fox 25 Morning News’ visit to Watertown, they had plenty going on at Victory Field Friday morning. Fox 25 made its first Zip Trip of the year to Watertown, and the news crew interviewed a variety of folks from around town. Hometown Heroes were two of the Watertown Police officers, Sgt. John MacLellan and Sgt. Jeff Pugliese, who involved in the shootout with the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects.
