Watertown Field Hockey Coach Up for USA Today Coach of the Year

USA Today High School Sports is looking for the high school coach of the year and Watertown High School field hockey coach Eileen Donahue is one of the 20 nominees. Besides receiving the honor of being coach of the year, if Donahue wins the WHS athletic department would receive $1,000. The school of the second place coach gets $500 and the third place one gets $250 for the athletic department. Donahue and the Raiders have compiled quite a resume, with seven straight state titles and the national record for the longest unbeaten streak, that stands at 160 after the end of the 2015 season. Voting began on Thursday and runs through Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2 p.m.

Raiders Play Thursday Football, Field Hockey Team on TV

Watertown enjoyed success under the Thursday night lights at Victory Field. The Raiders beat Wakefield 40-22 on a rare Thursday night contest. Watertown Field Hockey Coach to be Featured on News Broadcast

Watertown field hockey coach Eileen Donahue will be featured in a piece on WCVB Channel 5 on Oct. 2. SportCenter 5 anchor Mike Lynch will talk to Donahue about the Raider’s record breaking winning streak for the High 5 feature during the 11 p.m. newscast on Thursday, Oct. 2. NewsCenter 5’s High report is a weekly report highlighting the outstanding achievements of high school scholar-athletes.

If you drive by Watertown High School you will notice some large numbers posted in the window. These signify the success of the Watertown field hockey team. The numbers are both large in size – around five feet high – and what the stand for – the Raiders unbeaten streak. On Thursday the number “121” was displayed but Athletic Director Michael Lahiff will have to add another 2 after Watertown defeated Lincoln-Sudbury 7-0 on Thursday afternoon. The game was well in hand after at halftime, when the Raiders held a 5-0.
