Three Raiders Sign Letters to Continue Playing Sport in College

Three outstanding Watertown High School athletes made it official Monday, they will be taking their game to the next level. Two field hockey player and a track and cross country runner signed their letters of intent during a ceremony in the Watertown High School Gym. Jonna Kennedy
Watertown’s field hockey goalie Jonna Kennedy will be playing for Boston College next year. She has been part of three state championships and hopes to win another one this week. Watertown field hockey coach Eileen Donahue said her goalie played both for the varsity and JV her freshman year. Sometimes playing with such a talented team in front of her can mean little action, but Kennedy responds when called upon.

Watertown Runner Wins Title at Middlesex League Cross Country Meet

Watertown senior Emily Koufos ran past the competition to win the Middlesex League Cross Country Meet on Monday. Koufos ran the 2.5 mile course at Woburn Country Club in a time of 14:57.60, which was 15 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The finish was an improvement over last season when Koufos placed fifth at the Middlesex League meet. She went on to win the MIAA Div. 5 Meet, 12th at the Div.

Two Raider Runners Star at Eastern Mass Cross Country Meet

Continuing a their stellar seasons, Watertown High School runners Emily Koufos and James Piccirilli finished first and second, respectively, in the girls and boys Div. 5 Eastern Mass. Cross Country Championship on Saturday. 

Koufos, a junior, took the lead about halfway through the 5K race at the Wrentham Development Center, and finished well ahead of the other runners. Her time of 19:05.96 was 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. In the boys race, Piccirilli came in second place, just two tenths ahead of the third place finisher.

WHS Sports: Boys Soccer Secures Tourney Spot, Runners Excel at League Meet

The Watertown boys soccer team is back in the MIAA State Tournament after a one-year hiatus and they will play their first round match at home. The Raiders finished strong down the stretch to end the year with a 9-7-2 record and they got the eighth seed in the Div. 3 North Section tournament. They will host ninth seed North Reading (9-7-2) on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Victory Field.

WHS Sports: Boys Hockey Wins High Scoring Game, Herald All-Stars

The Watertown boys hockey team won a high scoring affair at the John A. Ryan Arena on Wednesday night. 

The Raiders took the non-league game 6-5 over visiting Westborough. The win improved Watertown’s record to 2-3 on the season. The Raiders’ next game is Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Burlington at Ryan Arena. Herald All-Stars
