Seniors Invited to the Council on Aging’s Farewell Summer BBQ

Join us at the Council on Aging (COA) Farewell Summer Barbecue (BBQ) for Watertown Seniors and their companion, presented by the City of Watertown, Department of Senior Services, Police Department, Fire Department and the Friends of the COA on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 3 PM – 6 PM. This is FREE for Seniors and will include BBQ grilled food and refreshments, live music, outdoor seating, parking available, Fire Truck and Police Utility Vehicle Showing, Officers on Bike and Fire Safety Convos. Call 617-972-6490 ahead of time if you need a ride. This is a rain or shine event with the BBQ catered meal served inside and the option to sit outside if the weather permits.

Watertown Senior Center Hosting Holiday Boutique This Week

Get your holiday shopping started with the Friends of the Watertown Council on Aging’s Holiday Boutique. The sale features handmade knitted items, jewelry, ornaments and holiday décor. The Boutique will be held at the Watertown Senior Center, 31 Marshall St., on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Friday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mr. President, Councilors, and Mr. Manager. It is my pleasure to express a positive message at this time. A while ago you provided the Council on Aging with the fruits necessary to advance the scope of the Senior Center, such as more hours for our able bodied staff to stretch their abilities. And they have them. Mr. Manager [Michael Driscoll] you appointed a Director [Anne-Marie Gagnon] whose experience and advice allows the Members of the Council on Aging to ponder every aspect of senior living and needs.

Council Statement: Senior Center Won’t Close; Some Worried About Center’s Focus

No one can pin down where it came from, but rumors have flown recently that the Watertown Senior Center would be closing. Town Council President Mark Sideris made it clear Tuesday night that the center will not close. The Council’s Human Services subcommittee held a meeting in late March to gather information about what people want from the senior center and what qualities they want to see in the new executive director. The meeting ruffled some feathers, however, and some felt that there was an effort to change the mission of the Senior Center. Tuesday night, the report from the meeting was presented.
