See Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion Decorated for the Holidays

Holiday lights, dancing and hot cocoa filled Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion during the recent Holiday Open House. The town-owned, historic home opened its doors on Dec. 18. Rooms were filled with Christmas trees, nutcrackers and other holiday items.

Santa Claus paid a visit and members of Ballroom in Boston danced on the first floor and attendees enjoyed hot cocoa and treats. The decorations, entertainment and refreshment were provided by Home Depot, Watertown Savings Bank, Cass the Florist, Dunkin Donuts/Riverside Management Group, BG Event Catering, AA Rental Center and Ballroom in Boston.

New Season of Top Chef Features Show Shot in Watertown

Bravo’s reality cooking show Top Chef shot its latest season in the Boston area, including one episode in Watertown. Top Chef season 12 features segments from Boston area landmarks such as Fenway Park, Plimouth Plantation, the Cheers Bar and our very own Commander’s Mansion. The episode at the historic house located in the Arsenal on the Charles was shot in late May, said Tammy McKenna, facility manager at the Commander’s Mansion. The show included employees from athenahealth, the company that now owns the Arsenal complex. When the show was looking for a filming location athena suggested the mansion, McKenna said.

Tufts Health Plan Lends a Helping Hand Around Watertown

Groups of people in blue T-shirts could be seen around Watertown last week working on a variety of projects – all part of the Tufts Health Plan Corporate Volunteer Day. More than 130 employees of the company based on Mt. Auburn Street in Watertown took part in the company’s sixth annual volunteer day. Some cleared brush and planted flowers and plants at the Commander’s Mansion and the Old Burying Place; while others painted the railing at Watertown’s Main Street Bridge, buildings at Arsenal Park and a wall at Filippello Park.

In case you missed the Fox 25 Morning News’ visit to Watertown, they had plenty going on at Victory Field Friday morning. Fox 25 made its first Zip Trip of the year to Watertown, and the news crew interviewed a variety of folks from around town. Hometown Heroes were two of the Watertown Police officers, Sgt. John MacLellan and Sgt. Jeff Pugliese, who  involved in the shootout with the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects.

Grab Some Grub from Food Trucks in Watertown

Need a bite to eat, try something new at the Commander’s Mansion, which will host food trucks five days a week beginning April 21. The trucks park on Talcott Avenue near the entrance to Arsenal Park,, and will offer a variety of goodies through the week, said Tammy McKenna, facilities manager at the Commander’s Mansion. “Last season we implemented a Food Truck pilot program once/twice a week and it was well received,” McKenna said. “This season we were given the go-ahead to open it up five days and it starts next Monday the 21st (of April) running through October 3rd.” The trucks are open to everyone.

Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion Hosts Wedding Faire

Brides and grooms-to-be can find caterers, photographers, entertainers and more for their big day at the ninth annual Wedding Faire at the Commander’s Mansion in Watertown. Meet the top wedding professionals from the Boston area and see the latest bridal fashions at the event on March 1 and 2 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sample food and prizes will also be given out during the event. Vendors include caterers, florists, photographers, bakeries, entertainment, transportation and more. Different vendors will be featured each day. Tickets cost $5 and is good for the whole weekend.
