Enjoy Halloween Fun During the Watertown Lil Monstah Joyride

Once again, the Watertown Commander’s Mansion will host free drive-through Halloween festivities. Experience lights, live music and treats at the Commander’s Mansion, 440 Talcott Ave., Watertown. The event is aimed at children in grades PreK-5, and is rain or shine. Organizers provided the following information:

You are invited to Watertown’s annual Lil’ Monstah Joyride, it is this Saturday, October 23rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Guests will lineup on Arsenal Street, enter the complex through Talcott Avenue and exit through the “abandoned” gate house gates! Watertown Police will be onsite directing traffic. This is a free, drive-through community event, with live music, lights and treats for the kids!

While the Mosesian Center for the Arts building remains closed for renovation, the arts center continues to produce live, in-person events on the grounds of the Commander’s Mansion at the Arsenal on the Charles. On July 14 and August 4, two Earfull events takes the stage—and both are nearly sold out. Since the early 2000’s, Boston musician and author Jen Trynin, and bookstore connoisseur Tim Huggins, have been hosting the series, bringing together the worlds of writers and musicians. They prove that, given the right environment, Book People will love the experience of live music, and Rock People will realize how cool it is to hear great authors reading their work aloud. On July 28, STL GLD performs with Regie Gibson.

Watertown Veterans Gather In-Person to Commemorate Memorial Day

Charlie BreitroseWatertown veterans salute the Flag during the playing of the National Anthem at the Memorial Day Observance. Memorial Day 2021 in Watertown had more of a normal feeling than last year, with veterans able to gather in person and pay tribute to those who gave their lives serving their country. While the parade was cancelled for the second straight year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Town’s Memorial Day Observance took place under a tent next to the Commander’s Mansion. “I think the community and everyone else has learned a crash course in what veterans call improvise, adapt and overcome,” said Watertown Veterans Services Officer Patrick George. Last year, members of the Shutt Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and AmVets organized the place flags on graves of veterans and place wreaths at memorials around Watertown despite the COVID-19 restrictions.

Watertown Memorial Day Ceremony Moving to Commander’s Mansion

Charlie BreitroseThe Watertown Police and Fire honor guards stand at attention during the Memorial Day Ceremony. For 2021, Watertown will commemorate Memorial Day at the Commander’s Mansion, starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 31. The annual parade was cancelled due to concerns with COVID-19, but the ceremony held afterward will take place, said Watertown Veterans Services Officer Patrick George. The weather prompted a change of venues for the ceremony. “It was going to be at Victory Field, because the bleachers would allow people to space out,” George said.

A giant jack-o-lantern man looked over the cars at the Lil’ Monstah Joyride at Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion on Friday. The place to be in Waterown on Saturday night was the Commander’s Mansion for the Lil’ Monstah Joyride. The Commander’s Mansion decked out for Halloween during the Lil’ Monstah Joyride. Hundreds of cars filled with kids cruised by the Halloween themed displays put on by the Commander’s Mansion, the Recreation Department, the Watertown Fire Department, School of Rock and Watertown Savings.
