Dozens of Watertown Students Earn Academic Honors at Their College

More that two dozen students from Watertown earned academic honors this spring at 14 colleges and universities. The information was provided by the schools to Merit. Bryant University

Bryant University is pleased to recognize the students who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and achievement and have been named to the spring 2023 President’s List. The President’s List is an academic distinction reserved for Bryant’s highest achievers who earn a GPA of 4.0 for at least 12 semester hours of work. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement!

Watertown Student Makes President’s List at College of Charleston

The following information came from the College of Charleston:

The following students at the College of Charleston were named to the President’s List for the spring 2023 semester. Requirements for the President’s List are as follows:

Student was enrolled in and completed at least 14 semester hours and earned a GPA of 3.800 or higher

A student may not have an “I” (Incomplete) or a grade lower than “C” to qualify. No president’s list is released for courses taken during the summer terms. This honor will be noted on the transcript as “Highly Distinguished.”

Watertown Student Honored by Salem State for Academics & Engagement

The following announcement was provided by Salem State University:

Student Success and the First Year Experience office at Salem State University recently inducted 33 outstanding sophomore students into Alpha Omega Psi, an honor society for students who demonstrate strong academic performance and engagement at the university. During their first-year, these students participated in the Salem State University Emerging Scholars Program and successfully completed all requirements while maintaining a commitment to their academic success. Emerging Scholars participants are paired with graduate student success coaches and participate in a variety of guided sessions and focused programs throughout their first year. The program is designed to build students’ academic and life skills. 

The induction ceremony included Emerging Scholars success coaches Rashid Abuelmaali and Carolyn Tracy as well as Emerging Scholars program coordinator, Ashely Figueroa and assistant director Megan Wigton. An inspiring keynote address was given by Assistant Dean of Student Success and the First Year Experience Mathew Chetnik and a virtual greeting was offered by Assistant Vice President Lee Brossoit. Inductees received a formal certificate and a medallion to wear as part of their commencement regalia when they graduate. Chetnik notes, “Emerging Scholars provides students an opportunity to take ownership of their college experience while taking advantage of a coach whose sole focus is to motivate and guide them on that journey. While college can be hectic, these students completed all required sessions and were able to demonstrate a strong academic record at the end of their first year.”

Tracy states, “The students in this program showed up and engaged, even during a pandemic. They persevered to meet the requirements and we are so proud of their efforts. I have no doubt that with their dedication and academic success, they will do well in their future endeavors.”

The Emerging Scholars Program is one of many initiatives at Salem State University designed to connect first-year students with supports which assists them in achieving success on their journey towards college completion.

Watertown Students Make Dean’s List at University of Maine

The following information was provided by the University of Maine:

The University of Maine recognized 2,330 students for achieving Dean’s List honors in the spring 2019 semester. Of the students who made the Dean’s List, 1,649 are from Maine, 623 are from 35 other states and 58 are from 30 countries other than the U.S.

Listed below are students who received Dean’s List honors for spring 2019, completing 12 or more credit hours in the semester and earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Two students from Watertown made the Dean’s List: Yonas Butler and Sarah Tymm

Pair of Watertown Residents Named to Their College’s Dean’s Lists

Two Watertown residents were recently named to their college’s Dean’s List. Student at Savanah College for Art and Design
Emerson Shaye O’Connor was named to the Dean’s List at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga., for spring quarter 2018. Emerson is seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising with a minor in Fashion Design. She is the daughter of Julie MacDonald of Watertown and Jonathan O’Connor of Newton. Named one of Kaplan’s “25 cutting edge schools with an eye toward the future,” the Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution with locations in Atlanta and Savannah, Ga., and in Lacoste, France.
