Tips to Prepare for the Cold Snap Hitting the Area Tonight, Friday Morning

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency warns residents to be prepared for the cold snap overnight from Thursday into Friday. MEMA officials released the following information:

Bitter cold temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills are forecast for later this week. Forecasts from the National Weather Service for late Thursday night and early Friday morning include low temperatures between 10° and -5° and wind chill values expected to be cold as -15° to -25° across the interior and -5° to -15° near the coast. While temperatures are expected to warm up by the weekend, extremely cold temperatures and wind chills can be dangerous. “MEMA urges residents to take precautions during the upcoming extreme cold weather.

Frigid Temperatures Coming This Weekend, Are You Ready?

With a cold snap coming to the Watertown area this weekend, make sure you are ready for the frigid temperatures. 

The lows will dip under zero Saturday night, and the high Sunday is forecast to be just 9 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. A Wind Chill Warning has been issued for the Boston area from 4 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday. The wind chill factor will drop temps to 20-30 below zero, and frostbite can occur within 10 minutes in those conditions if your skin is exposed, according to the National Weather Service warning. Make sure you and your home is prepared for the bitter cold. The Red Cross has some tips for you and your home:

Wear layers of lightweight clothing to stay warm.
