Watertown City Hall and Senior Center are closed in observance Labor Day, on Monday, September 4, 2023. Please note: Trash and recycling pickup is delayed one day. The schedule is Tuesday, September 5 – Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Multiple City-run facilities will be closed for the Fourth of July holiday, and many residents will see their trash and recycling collection pushed back a day. The City of Watertown announced that Watertown City Hall, Library, and Senior Center will closed on Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4, 2023. City officials added that trash and recycling pickup schedule is Monday, July 3, and then a one-day delay for trash and recycling pickup on July 4th, which moves both pickups to Wednesday, July 5 – Saturday, July 8, 2023. The Recycling Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.

City Buildings Closing Early for Storm, Council Meeting Postponed

The City of Watertown sent out the following information:

The City Manager is closing City Hall, the Library, and the Senior Center at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, as storm conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon. All afterschool and evening recreation programs are also canceled. All items scheduled for this evening’s City Council meeting will be continued to a new meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 16th. As a reminder, a snow emergency went into effect at 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 14. On-street parking is banned, and cars left on the street are subject to towing.

The Presidents’ Day holiday will impact the trash and recycling pickup this week, and multiple city facilities will be closed. Tracy and recycling service in Watertown will be delayed by a day this week. So, for instance, homes with a normal Monday collection will be on Tuesday this week. The City of Watertown announced that City Hall and the Senior Center will be closed in observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 20, 2023. The Watertown Library also announced that it will be closed on Monday for the Presidents’ Day holiday.

On Friday, Dec. 23, Watertown City Hall and the Watertown Senior Center will close at noon, but the Watertown Library will be open. The Library will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 24 and Sunday, Dec.

Historic Paintings Removed from City Hall to be Restored Using Community Preservation Funds

Stephen Munroe of Maquette, center, speaks with art preservationist Louise Orsini, right. Friday morning a quiet sense of anticipation filled the lobby of Watertown’s City Hall. The marble covered atrium was filled with history lovers and art preservationists waiting to see what secrets are held by a pair of paintings dating back to the early 1930s. The towering paintings have been inset into the walls of Watertown’s Town Hall (since 2021 City Hall) since it opened in 1932.

Council Holding Special Meeting on Creating Historic District, Changing Name of Delta & Community Preservation Projects

Three items will be covered during a special City Council meeting next week: a petition to create a historic district on Main Street, a petition to change the name of the delta in Watertown Square, and to consider the recommended project from the Community Preservation Committee. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber in Town Hall, 149 Main St. The name of the delta will discussed first, followed by the historic district proposal, and then the CPC projects. People can also participate in the meeting on Zoom.
