WHS Sports: See How the Raiders’ Track, Boys Lacrosse & Girls Tennis Teams Fared

Watertown’s athletic teams wound up a successful spring season with state competitions this weekend. 
Track & Field
Watertown senior Austin Lin turned in another fine performance, running the 400 meters in 48.84 to take third place Saturday at the All-State Meet at Westfield State College. Lin will run again for the Raiders as part of the Watertown sprint relay team going to Outdoor High School Nationals in North Carolina later this month. The boys 4 x 400 relay came in 11th in the meet, and senior Jeremy Breen finished 21st in the 800 meters. On the girls’ side, Watertown sophomore Emily Koufos got 14th in the mile run, and senior Katherine Tolman finished 18th in the 400 meters. The Raiders boys squad finished 43rd with six points.

Raiders Boys Lacrosse Rolls in Tournament, Girls Eliminated

Watertown’s boys lacrosse team demolished Lunenberg in the first round of the MIAA tournament on Thursday. The seventh-seeded Raiders defeated the 1oth-seeded visitors 19-5 in the Div. 3 Central/East Section game at Victory Field. Watertown improves to 7-10 and will head to No. 2 seed Weston (15-3) for the section quarterfinal on June 4 at 5 p.m.
Girls Lacrosse
The Raiders girls lacrosse squad suffered an 18-3 loss to Medfield Wednesday in the East Section Div.

WHS Sports: Track Excels at Div. 4 Meet; Teams Ready for State Tourney

The Watertown track team continued a successful season, with a number of top performances at the Div. 4 meet in Norwell this weekend. The boys team finished fifth place in the team competition with 44 points, thanks a couple of wins, and other high finishes on Saturday. Raider standout Austin Lin won the 400 meters with a time of 49.89. The senior is a school record holder in the indoor 600 meters.

The Raiders saw plenty of action in state tournaments as well as the state track meet. 
Boys Lacrosse
The Raiders won a thriller at Victory Field Thursday evening as Watertown won the Central/East Section Div. 3 quarter final 11-10 over Groton-Dunstable. Chris Sidler score the winning goal with just five seconds left, according to the Boston Herald. The fourth seeded Raiders (13-3) move on to the section semifinal on Monday, June 8 against the winner of Dover-Sherborn and Littleton. Girls Tennis
Watertown’s girls tennis team enjoyed one of its must successful seasons in many years, and made the North Section Div.
