Season Ends for Watertown Girls Basketball, But Coach Still Pleased by Team’s Effort

The season may have ended for the Watertown High School girls basketball team on Friday night, but their coach was proud of how far the team has progressed. Last season, Raiders only won one game and missed the State Tournament for the first time in several years.

Watertown High School’s girls basketball team went on the road Wednesday night and pulled off an upset by beating the fifth-seeded Shawsheen Tech, 37-29. The Raiders came in with a record of 8-12 and were the 12th seed in the MIAA Div. 3 North Tournament. The game was tied at 6 after one quarter, but in the second, Watertown poured it on.

Watertown Boys Basketball Mounts Frantic Comeback, Before Falling to Weston

Watertown sophomore guard Gabe Spinelli scored 29 points in the Div. 3 North first round game against Weston. The Watertown High School boys basketball team showed heart and determination on Monday night, but the Raiders comeback attempt fell short in the MIAA Div. 3 North first round game against Weston. The visitors from Weston led by more than 20 points in the third quarter, but the Raiders battled back to within six points with less than a minute left in the game, ultimately losing 58-50.

WHS Boys, Girls Basketball Teams Heading to Tournament

The Raiders will start the defense of their 2018 MIAA Div. 3 boys basketball State Championship on Monday at Watertown High School. The Raiders boys and girls basketball teams will both be returning to the State Tournament in 2019, with the boys hosting a first round game. The Watertown High School boys hoops team will defend its MIAA Div. 3 state championship starting on Monday night at home.

Watertown seniors Chris Iannetta, left, and Nick McDermott, and the rest of the Raiders boys basketball team, have been on a hot streak recently. The defending State Champion Watertown High School boys basketball team has hit a hot streak, piling up the wins over the past few weeks, including a buzzer beater. After a 1-3 start, the Raiders have improved to 9-7 overall (7-7 in the Middlesex League), including wins in six of the last eight contests. Watertown senior Mange Camara set one of the fastest times in state history in the 300 meters. Here he is running in the 2018 MIAA Div. 4 Indoor Championships. Watertown track star Mange Camara got his senior season off to a good start by running one of the top times in Massachusetts high school history in the 300 meters. Camara ran the 300 meter sprint in 34.44 seconds at the MSTCA Indoor Speed Classic at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston on Dec.

The Watertown High School girls basketball team won its home opener Sunday against South Boston, 44-16, on Sunday. The Raiders bounced back from their first loss of the season, 41-34 at Wakefield, on Friday. With Sunday’s win, Watertown improved its season record to 3-1 (1-1 in the Middlesex League). Sophia Garapetian runs the fast break for Watertown against South Boston.

WHS Sports: Successful Start for Raiders’ Winter Squads

The winter season just started, and Watertown High School’s athletic teams have already rack up some wins. 

Girls Basketball

Perhaps no team had a better start than the girls basketball team. Coach Pat Ferdinand’s team already has more wins than last season, after defeating Winchester 42-22 on Tuesday, led by junior captain Brianna Williams’ 12 points. “Wasn’t sure what to expect tonight, but knew we’d compete,” Ferdinand said after the opener at Winchester. The next night, the Raiders traveled to East Boston, and defeated the Jets 46-27. Freshman Taylor Lambo posted a double-double, with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
