WHS Sports: Hockey Team Hot, Big Comeback by Boys Hoops, Runners on Right Track

The 2022-23 season has been a hot and cold one for the Watertown High School boys hockey. The Raiders appear to be heating up in the latter half of the season as they look to return to the Garden for a second straight state final. The Raiders started the season winning four of their first seven games, and tying one. Then Watertown dropped four of six, and added another tie.

Watertown Girls Basketball Looks to Build on Foundation Set by Prior Teams

Watertown High School’s girls basketball team will have to replace a couple big contributors from last season, but Head Coach Pat Ferdinand said he wants to build on the foundation the team built last year. Gone are 1,000+ point scorer Taylor Lambo and long-time starter Ellie Monahan, who were part of last year’s team that won a State Tournament game before falling to the eventual State Champion, St. Mary’s. The 2022-23 season got off to a good start on Tuesday night.

New Crew Looks to Continue Watertown Boys Basketball’s Success

Catherine WilliamsThe 2022-23 Watertown High School boys basketball team will look to continue its sucess. During introductions at the Raiders Hoop Night on Saturday, the Watertown High School boys basketball team had a new cast of headliners, but they hope to build on the success of last year’s State Finalist team. All five starters from a year ago graduated, but Watertown Head Basketball Coach Steve Harrington believes the 2022-23 Raiders will have success. The Raiders tip off their season Tuesday night when they host Arlington at 7 p.m.

“We lost ton of experience, leadership, playing time — the whole ball of wax,” Harrington said. “Luckily, we are filling it with a great group of guys who waited their turn.”

Watertown’s Taylor Lambo Garners 2 Honors for College Basketball Performances

Watertown Basketball Coach Running Youth Summer Camps

Young basketball players can learn from Watertown High School girls basketball coach Pat Ferdinand at camps coming up this month in Watertown. Ferdinand and Watertown Youth Basketball will put on a series of four-day camps at Casey Park in Watertown, with one co-ed camp and multiple camps for girls. A co-ed high school pre-season camp runs from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.

Young Basketball Players Return to Summer Camp for First Time in Years

School might be out, but the gyms at Watertown High School and Watertown Middle School have been full of youngsters this week. They joined WHS’s basketball coaches for a week-long basketball camp, and there is another program next week. The summer basketball camps have been around for many years, said Watertown boys basketball coach Steve Harrington, who runs it along with Watertown girls basketball coach Pat Ferdinand. The program has been on hiatus for a few years.
