Mosesian Arts to Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Watertown Children’s Theatre

The following announcement was provided by Mosesian Center for the Arts:

In 1983, Watertown resident Dinah Lane launched Watertown Children’s Theatre with an inaugural production performed on the stage of Watertown High School. Over the 40 years since, more musicals, productions of classical, contemporary, and original plays, as well as classes and workshops have brought together tens of thousands of children, families, and audience members from Watertown and beyond. When the Mosesian Center for the Arts opened in 2005 (as the Arsenal Center for the Arts), Watertown Children’s Theatre was one of its resident companies.

Exhibition and Events for Watertown’s Edible Plants Art & Writing Project

The Public Arts & Culture Committee announced the exhibition and events related to the 2023 Edible Watertown project. Edible Watertown is a long term interdisciplinary project that promotes awareness of our local environment through community engagement and the artistic and scientific exploration of plants around Watertown. Edible Watertown aims to uplift the importance of local flora and their ecosystems to connect people with the environment right outside their door. Experience the work by 20 artists and writers:

Faire on the Square is Almost Here! See What’s Going on Saturday

The Faire on the Square, Watertown’s annual celebration, will take place Saturday, Sept. 23 at Saltonstall Park (next to City Hall). Come enjoy the entertainment, dozens of exhibitors, music, food, kids activities, an apple pie contest and chili cook off, a beer garden, and more! The Faire will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Organizers announced the Faire will take place, rain or shine.

City Seeks Feedback on Watertown Square Cultural District

Your feedback is vital to the success of the Watertown Square Cultural District! A public meeting will be held on Oct. 3, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Watertown Savings Bank Room at the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main St. Starting in 2022, Watertown began pursuing a Cultural District designation from the state. A Cultural District is an important civic tool designed to support the economy, the arts, and culture bearers on a local level.

Armenian Museum Hosting Artist Panel on Free Museum Weekend

The following announcement was provided by the Armenian Museum of America:

The Armenian Museum of America will host a series of programs the weekend of Sept. 23-24 highlighted by an artist panel discussing Ara Oshagan’s “Disrupted, Borders” exhibition currently showing in the Museum’s contemporary galleries. 

The event will bring Oshagan together with curator Ryann Casey, art critic Hrag Vartanian, and Professor Christina Maranci, all of whom touch upon contemporary art and politics in their respective work. The panel, titled “The Image as Disruption and Identity,” is free and open to the public, and will take place in the Adele and Haig Der Manuelian Galleries on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m., followed by a light reception. The Museum is also offering free admission for all visitors that weekend, along with free guided tours of “Ara Oshagan: Disrupted, Borders” to its members.

Watertown Cultural Council Seeks Grant Proposals for 2023-24

The Watertown Cultural Council (WCC) seeks new grant proposals from organizations, schools, and individuals who wish to provide arts, humanities and interpretive science programs for the Watertown community in 2023-24. Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and interpretive science projects are due October 17, 2023 at 11:59 EST. Application forms and more information are available online beginning September 1 st at www.massculturalcouncil.org.
