3 Murals Inspired by Watertown Going up at Arsenal Yards, Stores Opening Soon

Three murals will be created at Arsenal Yards by, from left to right, artist Louise ‘Ouizi’ Jones, painter Kim Carlino, and artist Felipe Ortiz. The first stores at Arsenal Yards, the project renovating the former mall, will be opening in coming weeks, and the mixed-use project will also feature murals inspired by Watertown created by three artists, according to owners of the mall. Arsenal Yards is installing three large-scale murals at various locations around the property, coinciding with the Fall 2019 debut of its first round of restaurants and retailers. Inspired in part by the lush natural beauty of Arsenal Park, the Charles River, and the history of its distinctive East End Watertown location, the mural artworks are currently being created by locally and nationally recognized artists commissioned by Arsenal Yards. Creating a vibrant and eclectic environment, one that includes one-of-a-kind public artworks, is part of the plan to make Arsenal Yards a new and unique urban village.

Sept. at Hatch: Congressional Challenge, Drawing & Halloween Costumes

Historical Society Marking the Signing of the First U.S. Treaty, Hosting Art Exhibit

Members of the United Native American Cultural Center in Devens play a traditional Native American song as part of the celebration of the signing of the Treaty of Watertown and the first reading of the Declaration of Independence at Watertown’s Edmund Fowle House. Two historic events from the early days of this nation will be celebrated by the Historical Society of Watertown. The group is also hosting an art exhibit featuring the work of a local artist. On Saturday, July 20, the Historical Society will recreate the signing of the first treaty signed by a fledgling United States, along with the first reading of the Declaration of Independence. Both events took place in Watertown.

Watertown Artist Teaching Series of Drawing Classes

Artist Audrey Childs is teaching a beginner’s drawing class where students will learn to draw what you see versus what you think you see. Does your drawing look like your subject? Do you usually draw stick trees and figures? Are you happy with the layout you prepped for coloring with any medium? Classes will include exercises to train hand and eye coordination that will aid in capturing an improved drawing of your subject.

Free Family Arts Day at Mosesian Center for the Arts

The Mosesian Center for the Arts invites you to Arts For All Festival 2019 happening this Saturday! This free, family-friendly, drop-in open house takes place June 8, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown and offers visual and performing arts workshops, kid friendly activities, Steam Roller Printing, performances by Drumatix, Keytar Bear, and more! 

Artists of all ages and abilities can explore the senses with a variety of arts activities like Sound Inspired Art, Nature in Watercolor, Musical Story Corner, and Air Dry Clay Sculpting. The event will once again feature The Steamroller Printing Project where professional printmakers ink up carved plates then roll over them with an industrial steamroller from the Watertown DPW yard to create relief print masterpieces! Rhythm and dance group DrumatiX will share their blend of dance and drumming using tap dance, everyday objects, large drums/barrels, body percussion, technology and tons of humor on the Mosesian MainStage! And Boston’s most beloved busker Keytar Bear will rock some tunes on the green from 11am to 1pm.

Artwork Made by Local School On Display at Watertown Gallery

“supposed to be” is a finished piece by Cecily Curtis is one of the pieces by eight-graders at Atrium School on display at Room 83 Spring. The following information was provided by Room 83 Spring:

The Atrium School’s eighth Grade Art and Social Studies Class will present A Statement on Identity, a pop-up show within the current show at ROOM 83 Spring. “I question everything, nothing is as it seems, and I wish someone would tell who I am supposed to be” 

Atrium eighth graders combine the lessons of their Art and Social Studies classes to produce this year’s final project which is focused on identity. The curriculum for Atrium’s eighth grade social studies classes comes from Facing History and Ourselves, an international education and professional development organization dedicated to engaging students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism in order to promote the development of an informed and humane citizenry.                           

Eleven pieces of art represent the students’ identities and each student will sign their name at the end.

Five Artists in an Eclectic and Electric show opening this Saturday at ROOM 83 Spring. 

Room 83 Spring is pleased to present Verve, with Michelle Benoit, Gabe Brown, Phyllis Ewen, Dennis Hlynsky, and Anne Sargent Walker. Engaging the natural world as a perceptual well, the artists affirm life in drawing, sculpture painting, and video. An artists’ reception will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The show can be seen on 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays, and anytime by appointment. Work of Watertown Artist Being Shown at Local Exhibit

“The Rangers Camp,” by Watertown artist Audrey Jones Childs, is one of the pieces in the exhibit at the Beecher Center in May. The work of a Watertown watercolor painter will be displayed in an exhibit in Belmont. Watertown’s Audrey Jones Childs has work showing at the Beech Street Center through the month of May. There will be a meet the artist event on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m.

The Beech Street Center is located at 266 Beech St., Belmont, and is open Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesdays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
