Watertown Arbor Day Celebration Features Food Trucks, Demonstrations

Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion will host a free Arbor Day Celebration on Thursday, April 27. The celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 27, rain or shine. In case of bad weather, the events will be in side the Mansion, 440 Talcott Ave. in Watertown (behind the Arenal on the Charles).  

Grab a bite to eat from the food trucks (they accept credit cards) or pack a picnic and join us for an afternoon of fun for all ages!

Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion welcomed Arbor Day a day early with a celebration of nature, some good eats and live entertainment on Thursday. 

Hundreds descended on the historic home in the Arsenal on the Charles complex for the event, where they could grab a bite at the two food trucks – the Chicken & Rice Guys and Gogi On The Block – and learn about nature from some of the groups at the table. Jamaica Plain-based Bee Bandits brought out an empty hive and some bee keeping suits to show people about keeping bees. “We are keeping bees in Watertown here at athenahealth,” said Miles Masci of Bee Bandits. “They are supporters of the environment.” There is one hive on a roof at athenahealth and two more are coming.

Watertown School Welcomes a New Tree for Arbor Day

Students at Cunniff School returned from Spring Break to find a new addition to the school – a dwarf apple tree. 

The tree was planted as part of Watertown Tree Warden Chris Hayward’s Arbor Day program. Trees have been planted at schools around town for the past several years, Hayward said. “The tree will get about 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide,” Hayward said. “And it will bear fruit.” On Friday, the whole school came out to the courtyard to see the new tree and get an Arbor Day gift of their own.
