Watertown Resident Biking 62 Miles to End Alzheimer’s in Honor of Grandfather

Doug Orifice, of Watertown, will bike 62 miles in the 2016 Ride to End Alzheimer’s Saturday, June 11, the Alzheimer’s Association announced. Beginning and ending at Seacoast Science Center in Rye, the Ride provides a 2-mile, 30-mile, 62-mile and 100-mile route along southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Orifice joined the Ride to End Alzheimer’s in 2013 months after he lost his grandfather Alzheimer’s. “After giving the eulogy at my Grandfather’s funeral I made the decision to fight back against this disease,” said Orifice. “Because I’ve seen the seriousness of this disease firsthand, I would like to do my part in making a difference.”

Man Running Marathon for Late Father Hosting Fundraiser at Donohue’s

Danny Shea of Chelmsford is hosting Drinks and Dancing with Old Brigade to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire’s Boston Marathon Team. The special event is open to the public and set for Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Donohue’s Bar and Grill, 87 Bigelow Ave, Watertown. “I am running to honor my late father, Jerry Shea, formerly of Belmont and an educator at Cambridge and Latin High School in Cambridge. He succumbed to this devastating disease in June,” said Shea.

Alzheimer’s Association Hosting Free Dinner and Discussion with Legal Expert

The Alzheimer’s Association will host a free dinner and discussion with a legal expert on Thursday, July 23 from 6-7 p.m., at the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with Don Freedman, a practicing attorney for over 40 years and founding partner of Rosenberg, Freedman & Lee LLP of Newton. Freedman concentrates on protecting the interests of elders as well as children and adults with special needs, according to the event announcement. He speaks frequently on elder and disability law issues experience by individuals with early stage Alzheimer’s disease and their families. Watertown Man Will Ride 62 Miles to End Alzheimer’s Disease

Doug Orifice, of Watertown, will bike 62 miles in the 2015 Ride to End Alzheimer’s Saturday, July 18. Beginning and ending in Fort Devens the Ride provides a 2-mile family ride, 30-mile, 62-mile and 100-mile route reaching all the way from Western Massachusetts to Southern New Hampshire. Orifice joined the Ride to honor the memory of his grandfather, Leo Egidio. To date, Orifice has raised over $2,800 of his $3,000 goal for the event. “I wanted to do my tiny part in helping raise money to help eradicate this illness,” said Orifice.

Watertown Woman Raising Money for Alzheimer’s Awareness

Judy Johanson, of Watertown is rallying her team, This is Our Life, to raise funds and awareness for an Alzheimer’s Association event called The Longest Day on June 21, 2015. The Longest Day, focused on the summer solstice was created in recognition of the long days that are part of living with Alzheimer’s disease, according to the announcement from the Alzheimer’s Association. Johanson’s husband Steve was diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s just prior to his 59th birthday. Judy and Steve had previously reached out to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter when his mother was diagnosed in her late 70s. The family used many of the free support services offered to families such as care consultation to help manage care for Steve’s mother.
