Two Watertown Natives Bring Play Focused on Interrogation of JFK’s Assassin to the Mosesian Center

Louis Fantasia was in West Junior Middle School — the former name of Watertown Middle School — when the principal came on the school P.A. system and announced the school was closed for the rest of the day. “They didn’t say anything about what it was. They just dismissed us and sent us home,” he said. “In those days there were maybe 10 houses between the school and Main Street, so all the old ladies saw us coming out of school, and they knew something was up, and that’s when people turned on their radios and TV.”

What had happened? JFK had just been assassinated, one of those moments that pauses our collective historical memory and everyone can recall clearly exactly where they were and what they were doing.

Watertown voters re-elected two incumbents in contested races on Tuesday, but there will be two new faces in elected positions. In the race for City Council President, incumbent Mark Sideris defeated challenger and former Council President Clyde Younger. The tally, according to precinct results obtained by Watertown Cable Access Television, was 2,602 for Sideris and 871 for Younger. Sideris will be serving his eighth two-year term. Five people were running for three, four-year School Committee seats.

Join us for an exciting, three-day design charrette with the project team as we sketch through alternative visions for the redesign of the Watertown Square area, at 64 Pleasant St. (same location as our Oct. 17 project kickoff). A charrette is a collaborative planning process during which an interdisciplinary team of planners, designers, transportation experts, city officials, residents, business owners, other interested people, and most importantly you, work together to create a shared design vision of a particular area. The goal of the process is to capture the vision, values, and ideas of the community.

Watertown Field Hockey Rolls in Tourney Win Over Marlborough

Two Raiders got a pair of goals apiece before halftime to lead the Watertown High School field hockey team to a 7-0 win over Marlborough in the Round of 32 game at Victory Field Saturday morning. In the first action in the MIAA Div. 3 tournament, Watertown got two goals from junior Nola MacKenzie, and senior Molly Driscoll also struck twice. Mother Struck by Car Outside Cunniff School, Taken to Hospital

A woman was struck by a vehicle as she was putting her child into a car seat outside Cunniff Elementary School on Thursday afternoon, and was taken to hospital. Watertown Police and Fire departments responded to the school on Warren Street at 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 2 after the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. “The mother sustained a lower-body injury and was transported to Beth Israel Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The child was unharmed,” the Watertown Police announced in a statement.

Three four-year seats on the School Committee are up for re-election this year in the Nov. 7, 2023 Watertown Municipal Election. Both David Stokes and Kendra Foley seek another term on the School Committee, but fellow incumbent Lindsay Mosca announced in June that she will not be running in 2023.
