Once again this Thanksgiving, the Watertown Police Department’s Whooley Foundation teamed with a local business to provide dozens of meals to families who would struggle to put on dinner for the holiday.

During his time at the Watertown Police Department, David MacNeil has trained at national crime investigation centers, taught trainings himself, he was the inspiration for a character in books and movies, and he got to visit Scotland Yard. Now, in his retirement, the Watertown native plans to share what he’s learned with others in law enforcement, and to help solve cold cases.

Part Three: “If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.” Mark Twain
This simultaneously cynical and humorous quote by Mark Twain would just about summarize the feelings of the many disaffected voters in Watertown at this time.
The play “Hush Hush” will be at the Mosesian Center for the Arts.
It’s the summer solstice this weekend, and the weather has turned into summer heat so fast! Enjoy Greek food, music, dance and more during the Grecian Festival. Mt. Auburn Cemetery has a full day of events to celebrate the solstice. Go sit in the shade of one of their majestic trees and contemplate what this summer will mean to you. There is an enticing backyard concert on Saturday, and a play based on a Bengali novel at the Mosesian Center. The Tipsy Tea party at the Commander’s Mansion must not be missed! Most important, perhaps, is that there is a holiday this weekend that you may not know about yet, National Onion Rings Day, celebrated at Donohue’s. It’s going on my calendar. (It’s also national kissing day. Not a bad one to celebrate either!)
The 215th Army Band will perform a free concert at the Mosesian Center for the Arts.
The following announcement was provided by the Mosesian Center for the Arts:
Mosesian Center for the Arts will welcome the 215th Army Band on June 26 as part of the band’s summer concert tour. Based in Fall River, the “Governor’s Own” 215th Army Band of the Massachusetts Army National Guard remains one of the nation’s finest military bands. For more than 60 years, the band has performed throughout New England and the world, bringing the Army’s musical traditions and goodwill to thousands of listeners.
The 2024 Watertown Grecian Festival will take place at the Taxiarchae-Archangels Greek Orthodox Church on June 21-23. This year’s festival marks 50 years.
The City of Watertown provided the following information:
Save the Date: The Joint Hearing to discuss the Watertown Square Area Plan will continue on June 27, 2024 at 6pm in the Watertown Middle School Auditorium at 68 Waverley Avenue in Watertown. This is a continuation of the Joint Hearing held on June 13 in the same location.
