A 1915 photo of Babe Ruth and his wife Helen, who were married in 1914. Helen died in a fire in Watertown on Jan. 11, 1929. Ninety years ago today (Jan. 11, 2019), a deadly fire claimed the life of the wife of a Watertown dentist.

The Bruins were greeted by the school’s cheerleading team, which got the crowd in the Perkins gym warmed up with a few numbers. Then it was time to strap on the goggles and play some goal ball.
Watertown senior Mange Camara set one of the fastest times in state history in the 300 meters. Here he is running in the 2018 MIAA Div. 4 Indoor Championships. Watertown track star Mange Camara got his senior season off to a good start by running one of the top times in Massachusetts high school history in the 300 meters. Camara ran the 300 meter sprint in 34.44 seconds at the MSTCA Indoor Speed Classic at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston on Dec.

Watertown senior Alex Egan was named to the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic boys soccer team. Watertown senior Alex Egan wrapped up his high school soccer career by being named to the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic team. Egan’s seven goals and 15 assists helped the Raiders win their first outright Middlesex League title. He finished his career with 17 goals and 18 assists. He was also named the Middlesex League Freedom’s Most Valuable Player.

The Watertown High School girls basketball team won its home opener Sunday against South Boston, 44-16, on Sunday. The Raiders bounced back from their first loss of the season, 41-34 at Wakefield, on Friday. With Sunday’s win, Watertown improved its season record to 3-1 (1-1 in the Middlesex League). Sophia Garapetian runs the fast break for Watertown against South Boston.

Seniors Gabby Venezia and Olivia Lampasona made the prestigious team named by Boston’s two major papers.
Venezia scored 22 goals for the Raiders and added 10 assists. The midfielder was named the Middlesex League’s Most Valuable Player and made the Middlesex League All-Stars for the second straight year. She will be playing in college next year at Holy Cross.
The winter season just started, and Watertown High School’s athletic teams have already rack up some wins.
Girls Basketball
Perhaps no team had a better start than the girls basketball team. Coach Pat Ferdinand’s team already has more wins than last season, after defeating Winchester 42-22 on Tuesday, led by junior captain Brianna Williams’ 12 points. “Wasn’t sure what to expect tonight, but knew we’d compete,” Ferdinand said after the opener at Winchester. The next night, the Raiders traveled to East Boston, and defeated the Jets 46-27. Freshman Taylor Lambo posted a double-double, with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
