Watertown Summer Basketball Champ Crowned

The 2019 champions of the Watertown Summer Basketball League, HBC. The team beat New Day 68-60 in game 2 of the finals. The 2019 champion of the Watertown Summer Basketball League took down the defending champ to claim the crown Thursday night. HBC defeated New Day, 68-60, in game 2 of the Papas Elite finals, which was delayed a day due to weather. The league, which plays on the outdoor court at Saltonstall Park, features current and former college basketball players.

The Watertown Summer Basketball League’s Papas Elite playoff finals series tipped off Tuesday, and the Legends League semifinals got underway. The Recreation Department provided they following account of Tuesday’s action. In game one of the Papas Elite Finals, HBC proved why they were the top seed throughout the year by defeating defending champion New Day by the score of 63-52. The game was decided relatively early in the second half, as New Day struggled to make shots, while intensive defense and great ball movement by HBC sealed the win.

Star Watertown Golfer Killed in WWII Will be Remembered, Again

Watertown’s Leo J. Martin was an outstanding amateur golfer in the 1930s and -40s, and died in World War II. A golf course in Weston was dedicated to him. In the late 1930s, a pair of twins from Watertown dominated amateur golf in Massachusetts, winning the state championship and other prestigious tournaments. The United States’ entry into World War II, however, put golf on pause and for one of the twins, Leo J. Martin, it was the end. He was killed in action.

Finals Set for Watertown Summer Basketball League

The Watertown Summer Basketball League finals begin Aug. 19. The Watertown Summer League playoffs have been narrowed to the top two teams, and the finals begin next week. Top seeded HBC will take on the third seed, New Day, in the Papas Elite League finals. The Watertown Summer League features current and former college basketball players.

Summer Basketball League Playoffs Semifinals Start Tuesday

The semifinals of the Watertown Summer Basketball League start Tuesday night. The four winners of the Watertown Summer Basketball League quarterfinals move to Tuesday night’s semifinals. Three of the four quarterfinals followed the seedings on Monday night, but there was one upset. The fifth seeded Zards defeated the fourth seeded Middlesex Magic 60-58. The top seed, HBC, beat eighth seed Made Men by double digits, 67-51.

Watertown Summer Hoops Madness Begins Monday Night

Watertown Boy Joins New England Revolution for Soccer Clinic

Gabriel Naguib of Watertown is warming up before the Santander and New England Revolution public clinic series stop in Boston. Santander Bank and the New England Revolution gave young soccer fans and their families an exciting opportunity to play alongside their favorite Revolution players during a local soccer clinic held at Boston Common. The free clinic featured New England Revolution defender Jalil Anibaba, goalkeeper Cody Cropper, goalkeeper Brad Knighton, forward Justin Rennicks, goalkeeper Matt Turner, and midfielder Wilfried Zahibo along with Revolution Academy coaches leading skills clinics with drills, demonstrations and instructions for young soccer fans (ages 5 through 12) and their families, including 8-year-old Watertown resident Gabriel Naguib. Along with meeting their favorite Revolution stars, fans enjoyed photo and autograph opportunities, games and more. This marked the first time that the Bank expanded the event to include multiple cities; the clinic series will continue with the final stop in Hartford on Aug.
