Watertown Field Hockey Player to Play in College All-Star Game

Watertown High grad Michaela Antonellis has been named an NCAA Div. 2 All American and will playin the 2019 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Game. The following piece was provided by Stonehill College Athletics:

WHS Sports: Raiders Earn Two Victories Over Belmont, Football Falls

Two Watertown High School teams beat archrival Belmont last week, while the Raiders struggled on the football field. Boys Soccer

The Raiders boys soccer team not only beat the Marauders Friday, but the 1-0 victory gave them their seventh win in a row. Junior Nicholas DiPace’s second half goal proved to be the winner for Watertown in the game played at Victory Field on Friday afternoon. The Raiders have not let in a goal in the last four games

Watertown improved to 7-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the Middlesex League. Field Hockey

The Watertown High School field hockey team has also gone on a long winning streak, winning eight in a row, including a 3-1 win over Belmont last Wednesday.

Watertown Library Hosting 6th Annual 5K Fun Run

The following information was provided by the Watertown Free Public Library:

The Watertown Free Public Library invites residents of all ages and abilities to participate in the 6th Annual Book It and Run 5K on September 21, 2019. This family-friendly event promotes community fitness, and helps support Watertown Free Public Library programs.

“The 5K is great opportunity for our community to celebrate our library and enjoy a laid-back run through Watertown.” says WFPL’s 5K coordinator Jamie Kallestad, “The library gets so much love and support from this town, we enjoy giving some of it back by cheering and encouraging our runners on race day. It’s a great day at work for everyone here.”

The Book It and Run course follows a 5-kilometer loop through Watertown neighborhoods. The start and finish line is located in front of the Watertown Boys & Girls Club on Whites Ave, a short walk from the library. Runners will have the chance to stop for water at Victory Field and can look forward healthy snacks donated by Iggy’s Bread and Russo’s at the finish line.

Champion of Summer Basketball Legend League Crowned

Finnegan Club clinched the 2019 O’Brien-Jeharian Legend League championship. Finnegan Club won Game 2 over Johnson Club to force a third and deciding game in the best-of-three Legend League Finals, and completed the season by winning the championship on Thursday night. The following account of Game 3 was provided by the Watertown Recreation Department:

The Finnegan Club came out of the gate red hot led by Marcus D’Angelis and Rob Bagasarian (10 first half points each) and never looked back to secure the 2019 O’Brien-Jerahian Legend League Championship by the score of 59-42. At half time, the score was 31 to 18, and to their credit, the Johnson Club enjoyed several runs, thanks to the fine play of Jeremy Kullman (18 points) and Danny Kelly (13 points), but could never diminish the lead below 10. Solid defense, great ball movement and the three ball helped propel the Finnegan Club to Championship status.
