Watertown Has Not Just 1, but 2 College All-America Field Hockey Players

Watertown’s Michaela Antonellis and Ally McCall both made college All-America field hockey teams this year. A pair of former Watertown High School field hockey teammates have gone on to success in college, and both have been named to the 2019 college All-America teams.

Michaela Antonellis and Ally McCall served as co-captains for the Raiders during their senior year, and now they both earned All-American status as college seniors. They also were part of the Watertown High School team that set the national record for longest consecutive unbeaten streak. Antonellis, who attends Stonehill College, made the NCAA Div. II All-America second team for both the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Synapse Sports All-America.

Watertown Soccer Player Named All-State, Five Make League All-Star Team

Watertown junior Rodrigo Freitas received several honors following the 2019 boys soccer season, including making the All-State team, League MVP, and was one of five Raiders to make the Middlesex League All-Stars. Freitas and the Raiders won the Middlesex League Small (Freedom) Division and got to the North Section Semifinals. He was one of three Middlesex League players named to the All-State team. The midfielder also made the Middlesex League All-Conference team — the best players from the Small and Large school divisions — and the Eastern Massachusetts All-Stars

Other Raiders on the League All-Stars are senior Gevork Kaapetyan, senior Devon Breen, junior Nicholas DiPace and junior Caiden Kiani.

Record Numbers Turn Out for 2019 Donohue’s Turkey Trot

Runners of all shapes, sizes and breeds took part in the 2019 Donohue’s Turkey Trot. Despite the rainy weather on Thanksgiving morning, the 2019 Donohue’s Turkey Trot drew a record number of runners and walkers for the annual 5K run and walk. Donohue’s owner John Donohue announced that the number of participants eclipsed the 1,000 mark, more participants than any of the previous 13 editions. Turkey Trot participants withstood rainy and chilly weather in 2019. Many runners huddled inside Donohue’s Bar & Grill before the race to escape the wet, chilly conditions.

Belmont Pulls Away from Watertown in Annual Thanksgiving Game

Watertown High School’s football team had Belmont where they wanted, with the ball in the opposition half and a chance to take the lead. However, in the end, the Marauders were the ones to find the end zone in the dying moments the Thanksgiving Day game. Belmont extended its winning streak in the big rivalry game to two in a row, winning 24-14 at Victory Field on Thursday. The loss meant Watertown ended the season with a record of 5-6.

WHS Sports: Football Team on a Winning Streak, Cross Country Wraps Up Season

Watertown senior quarterback Brennan Cook has had multiple touchdown passes in the past two wins for the Raiders. The Watertown High School football team may have missed the tournament, but the Raiders have found their winning ways. The team heads into the Belmont game on a three game winning streak and with a chance to finish with a winning record. On Friday, Watertown traveled to Weston and won handily, 31-7. Four Raiders scored touchdowns in the victory.
