Watertown Grad Makes Northeast-10 Conference Academic Honor Roll

Watertown’s Catherine Connors is a sophomore field hockey player at Stonehill College. Watertown High School graduate Catherine Connors, a sophomore at Stonehill College, was named to the Northeast-10 Conference’s Academic Honor Roll. Connors plays field hockey for the Skyhawks. Stonehill Athletics sent out the following information about the NE10’s academic honors:

The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its Academic Honor Roll for the Fall 2020 semester, recognizing 333 student-athletes from Stonehill who have earned a semester grade point average of 3.00 or higher. The NE10 Academic Honor Roll acknowledges the commitment of NE10 student-athletes in the classroom with three distinctions – Academic Excellence (4.00 GPA), Academic Distinction (3.50-3.99 GPA), and Academic Honors (3.00-3.49 GPA).

Watertown Grad Named to All-Big East Field Hockey Team

Watertown’s Kourtney Kennedy, who plays at UConn, made the Big East’s preseason All-Conference team. The Big East Conference named former Watertown High School field hockey star Kourtney Kennedy to its preseason All-Conference team. Kennedy, a senior back for the Huskies, was one of four UConn players named to the pre-season All-Big East team prior to the start of the season, according to the announcement from UConn Athletics. Normally a fall sport, field hockey was delayed until mid-February due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a junior, Kennedy scored a career-high three goals and added three assists.

Watertown Basketball, Hockey Teams Playing Reduced Schedule in 2021

The winter high school sports season will begin right after New Year’s, and in the condensed schedule Watertown will only play teams in the Middlesex Freedom Division. Due to COVID-19, the schedule had been reduced to 10 games this year. Only the WHS basketball and hockey teams will be participating in the winter season, and they will play the same team at home and away each week. No fans will be allowed at games, according to the Boston Globe. Home games will be broadcast on Watertown Cable (WCATV.org).

Watertown Field Hockey Player Named Globe All-Scholastic

Watertown’s Maggie Driscoll plays Tewksbury in the 2019 State Tournament as a freshman. This season she was named to the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic Team

The Boston Globe named Watertown High School’s Maggie Driscoll to the 2020 All-Scholastic Field Hockey team. The sophomore midfielder helped the Raiders finish a perfect 8-0 in the COVID-19 shortened season. She scored 12 goals this season. Driscoll also was named a Middlesex League All-Star and the co-Most Valuable Player for the Middlesex Freedom Division.

Eleven Watertown High School athletes from five teams made the Middlesex All-Stars during the 2020 Fall Season. Football and girls volleyball will be held during the MIAA’s Fall II Season, due to begin in February. Watertown school officials decided to not hold swimming this year because the program is a coop one with Arlington, which would have required students from both schools mixing each day, according to an Athletics Subcommittee report at the Watertown School Committee. Athletes can register now for the Winter Season, which includes boys and girls basketball and boys and girls hockey.

Three Watertown Soccer Players Make All-Stars, One Garners Eastern Mass Honors

Watertown senior Nick DiPace made the Middlesex Boys Soccer All-Stars and the Eastern Mass. All-Star team. The Middlesex League boys soccer teams featured some of the top high school players in the State, and three Watertown Raiders made the All-Star list plus one also received Eastern Massachusetts honors. Watertown seniors Nicholas DiPace, Caiden Kiana and Kenan Canca made the 2020 Middlesex League Small School All-Star team. The Raiders finished 4-3-1 in the season that was shortened due to COVID-19.

Watertown Field Hockey Team Improves to 3-0, Featured in Boston Globe Story

The shortened fall season is underway for the Watertown High School field hockey team, and the Raiders have continued their winning ways. Monday, Watertown beat Melrose 5-0 and improved to 3-0 without allowing any goals. On Saturday, Watertown shut out Wakefield 5-0 in the second game of the year. Molly Driscoll leads the team with six goals, Ellie Monahan has four and Maggie Driscoll gas three goals, according to reports on the Watertown Athletics’ Twitter.

The abbreviated fall high school sports, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, started this week when the Watertown High School golf team took on Wilmington, and other teams will be debuting this weekend. Six fall sports teams will be competing this year: boys and girls cross country, field hockey, boys and girls soccer and golf. Meanwhile, the football, volleyball, swimming and cheerleading teams will wait until “Fall II” which begins in February. Most of the teams will have 10 competitions. The boys and girls cross country teams will have five apiece.
