Basketball Camps for Young Players to be Hosted by Watertown High Coaches

Watertown High School’s basketball coaches will be running a camp for young players in August. Watertown boys basketball coach Steve Harrington (Harry) and girls basketball coach Pat Ferdinand (Coach Pat), will put on summer skills sessions for players boys and girls going into grades 3 through 9. Camps are separated into age groups. This year, the camps will be held at the Browne Basketball Courts, behind the Watertown Police Station, 552 Main St. The four-day camps run for an hour-and-a-half each day.

Watertown Rower Will Row for the Gold After His Crew Qualified for the Olympic Final

U.S. RowingWatertown’s Alexander Richards and the U.S. men’s eight boat qualified for the Olympic final. Team USA’s Men’s eight rowers, including Watertown’s own Alexander Richards, finished a close third late Tuesday night to book a spot in Thursday’s Olympic Final. Richards and the USA crew raced against Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Romania for spots in Thursday’s final at the Tokyo Olympics. The top four in the repechage race advanced to compete for medals. The Americans hit the 500 meter mark in third place, behind the Brits and New Zealand.

Watertown Resident Rowing at Tokyo Olympics, Competition Begins Friday

Kelley L Cox / KLC fotosWatertown’s Alexander Richards will be rowing for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics . Rower Alexander Richards, who hails from Watertown, will get his first taste of Olympic competition on Friday, Eastern time, a day earlier than originally scheduled. Richards competes on the USA’s men’s eight team, and while he has had international experience, this will be his first time rowing in the Olympic Games. The 25-year-old attended Belmont Hill School, and went on to Harvard. He currently trains in Oakland, Calif.

15 Watertown High School Athletes Make Fall II & Spring Middlesex All-Stars

More than a dozen Raiders were chosen among the best in the Middlesex League in 2021. The pandemic created some strange seasons for some sports. Football was moved to Fall II, in the early part of 2021, and the wrestling season was moved from the Winter Sports Season to the Spring. Fifteen Watertown High School athletes made the Middlesex All-Stars in eight sports. Fall II All-Stars

Watertown Boxer Expects Tough Competition in 3rd Pro Fight, Also Expecting First Child

Emily Harney PhotographyWatertown’s Rico DePaolis won his second professional fight in May, and is preparing for his next bout on July 23. On Friday, July 23, Watertown’s Rico DePaolis returns to the ring for his third professional fight, and this time the atmosphere will be a bit different. “To fight in front of a crowd at any level is great, but this is my first time as a pro,” DePaolis said. After making his professional debut in March — a first round technical knock out loss — DePaolis scored his first win as a pro in May with a first round TKO. Both events were limited to just the boxers and their trainers.

Youth football players and cheerleaders can register for the Fall 2021 season with Watertown Belmont Youth Football & Cheer. Practices will begin on Monday, Aug. 29, and are held Monday to Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moxley Field in Watertown. See more information and register at wbyouthfootball.com/site

Watertown Belmont Youth Football and Cheer provided the following information. We offer 3 different divisions for both Football and Cheerleading:

Cheerleading Grades 1st – 8

Non-Contact Flag Football Grades 1st – 2nd

Tackle Football Grades 3rd – 8th

Divisions are then broken down into teams by grade level:

Registration fees are as follows:

Flag (1st & 2nd grade) – $75

Crusader (3rd & 4th grade) – $120

Spartan (5th & 6th grade) – $170

Gladiator (7th & 8th grade) – $170

Cheerleading – $100

*Please note cheerleading is broken into teams by grade level the same as above*

Once again, this year, your registration fee will include a baseline ImPACT test for each athlete.

Watertown Soccer Player Will Continue His Athletic Career in College

Watertown High School AthleticsWatertown’s Nick DiPace signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Emmanuel College. Recent Watertown High School graduate Nick DiPace had a small celebration before graduation where he signed a letter of intent to play soccer in college. Next year, DiPace will play on the Emmanuel College soccer team. “It’s amazing that I get to continue playing soccer in college,” he said. “Soccer has really opened up a lot of opportunities for me, for example getting to meet new people who also love the game of soccer.”

Watertown Baseball Team’s Tournament Run Ends, Lacrosse & Track Also in Postseason

The Watertown High School baseball team made the most of the return of the MIAA tournaments, winning twice before losing in the North Div. 3 quarterfinals. On Wednesday, the Raiders playoff run ended with an 11-0 loss to Bishop Fenwick. The 23rd seeded Watertown got there by beating 10th seed Charlestown 7-3 on June 18, and then shutting down Northeast Metro, the seventh seed, 2-0 on Monday. The Raiders finished the season with a record of 5-10.
